Default 1996 Variocam or Not? HELP ME QUESTIONS

I am looking at a 1996 993 that was built 1/96 according to the sticker in the door. Would this vehicle have the Variocam or not? Is there a way to tell by the VIN?

It is a factory widebody also...and I have no idea if it is a C2 or C4?

The seats are different also...they are larger and wrap around like race seats but do have the leather fronts but the back are fiberglass and have the porsche logo on the back.

Any idea what I am looking at. The guy that owns it does not know much about it.

Thank you for your help.

I have a 96 and it has it. I believe it started from 96 on but you can check the archives.

Are we talking VARIO-CAM or VARIO-RAM?

Thank you but where would I find these archieves?

Does the wide body on a 993 increase the value by very much because I sure can't see much of a difference between my normal body 1995 993 and a wide body other than the side rockers.

Thanks,
Paul

I think I was talking Vario-Cam...what is the Vario-ram? Excuse me for my stupidity...but 993 is new to me since I am old school 911sc until last month.

I am trying to figure out if this car is 272hp or more and since it is a factory wide body with leather looking porsche race seats and was built 1/96.

Thank you,

Top of this page click on SEARCH.
Lots of info on wide body pricing and just about anything else you can think of.

Dpends on the MY and RoW or US model.
Open the engine cover. Look at the intake manifold. If it's got varioram it will be cast in to the top of the alum. intake.

993's only have varioram, which changes the throttle valve, resonance flap and sliding intake tubes to aid in mid range torque. If the car is a '96, it should have varioram.

Not true, some variorams do not have the word cast in them. Hence, mine...
But it will look like this.
By the way, I love this..As the slippery slope approaches I have one hand on my wallet and one foot on a banana peel.

I stand corrected. Thanks Darin. And for the pics. too. (Clive too!)
Any idea why no "varioram" on your intake? Different vendors? Or just a MY thing?

It has been discussed before, and I'm not sure if any conclusion was drawn.
All I know is, without the script, mine is lighter, and gives me about 10 extra horses!!!

Sweeeet!
Now IIRC, if it was just GP white, even more HP.

Varioram=varying length intake runners to optimize power over the rpm range
Variocam=varying cam timing to optimize power over the rpm range

The former is on the US 96-98 993 models.
The latter is on 996s, I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
The 1995 993 has fixed-length intake runners.

Edward
