Minute brassy particles visible in engine oil
My 993 RS has only done about 24K miles. Of late, when checking the engine oil level with the dipstick, in addition to a smear of oil being left on my white piece of kitchen towel, I can see in the smear what look like a number of miniscule brass-coloured particles. They are definitely gold in colour and not silver or black. The oil was changed about 9 months ago for Castrol TXT, which I believe is a fully synthetic oil. I don't remember seeing the particles before that oil change; I'm guessing that it had Mobil 1 in it when I bought the car.
Any thoughts as to what this might be?
Thanks
Nigel

Very normal. It's from the dipstick scraping a brass fitting when entering and leaving the oil tank. Try doing a search on the subject as there have been many worried over the same issue in the past.

Depending upon where you get the car serviced - I think that OPCs use Castrol oil in the UK (If I remember correctly), although you can supply them with your own Mobil 1 (at least I used to do that).

Thanks Kelly
I should've done a search first (sorry!) and am mighty relieved to see that it is nothing to worry about - phew!
(Craig - the change in oil brand wasn't a conscious decision on my part, it is simply what the service guys at the independents put in.)
Thanks again

Nigel,
Not a problem.
But, as with any new member to Rennlist, you are required to post pictures of your ride... we love to look at 993s here.
Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you'll decide to stay and be a regular.
