Default Need help identifying OEM TT wing.

I purchased an OEM TT wing (per the seller who was not certain of its authenticity at first) on ebay and took delivery a day ago. Only upon inspection, the unit appears to be an aftermarket piece, the left underside showed vague rework signs (I could be wrong). The unit appears to be a brand new piece including the inner and out grills. The material of construction appears to be fiberglass or some other type of hard material. The inner and outer grills are OEM pieces with Porsche part numbers. However, I was unable to locate a part number for the tail itself.

Does anyone know the part number for the tail itself and/ or where it would be located on the tail, if it was an OEM piece? Is there some other way to confirm its authenticity?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Ken

If I remember correctly the number is just beside the latch under the rubber strip.

John,

The unit did not come with the rubber strip or the latch installed. I checked the entire underside and I did not see any numbers. The only thing I did not do was to remove the grills and check on the inside. I will attempt to do this when I get in.

Ken,
I just looked at mine and the number is indeed aft of the latch and under the rubber.

Sounds like what I recently bought.....and it is aftermarket (mine). You can use your old latch and rubber, but you'll find (probably) that the wing doesn't have a nice firm seal to the car (at least thats what I found). I drilled and mounted a couple of old hood bumpers that I had (those rubber spacers that screw out usually from the hood). Had to remove some of the rubber since thy usually screw into metal and this was a good 1/4" or better of fiberglass. Worked 'em in and it worked like a champ, shuts solid and doesn't rattle.

Hope you didn't get jipped....that'd be ashame

IIRC the factory tail is a one piece tail/trunk unit; if all you bought was the tail itself then it's an aftermarket piece.

Sorry, Dave, mine is an aftermarket piece and it is the decklid and all (its the only way to properly construct a factory looking Turbo tail......and mine you can't tell other than it being F.G. and you have to tap it to tell)
