I second Gorilla Glue - used it on my soft socket over a year ago and haven't had the plastic insert come back out yet.

I wrapped duct tape around an impact socket a couple of years ago and it's still good to go.

I bought mine from Rennlist store. As others, my insert keeps coming out since it was just silicone glued in. No big deal. It does prevent rounding of my nice poilshed lugs though.

I bought a soft socket from the snapon guy which has a soft alloy (pot metal) interior instead of plastic or nylon. My lugnuts were already far from perfect, but I have not noticed any further degradation.

I think it works very well and I highly recommend it. The only negative I could find was that the outside was a little rough. I polished the outside up and all is well.

Although I have been looking... I have never seen it from another source.

I had one of those soft sockets (with the soft metal insert)....insert cracked while tightening wheels to proper torque. Had fun getting the bits of metal out of the DEEP wells on the 10" widebody offset wheels. I was worried about getting the pieces out otherwise I would not be able to get a regular socket over it.
I just use regular 19mm socket now.

About a week after I broke mine I was visiting a friend (Boxster kind of guy), and I had to laugh when I saw his same type of socket sitting on the bench in similar pieces.....

I have used both a plastic lined socket and one from Snap-On that has an aluminum liner. I much prefer the Snap-On socket. The fit over the nut is more precise and it has lasted through a lot of use. The Snap-on socket also has a smaller diameter that fits into the lug nut wells on a greater range of wheels than does the plastic lined one.

The one I have is black oxide rather than chrome finished. Dimensions look about the same. Don't know if a "composite core" is the same as the alloy/pot metal insert...

I'm in the market for a new lug nut socket and am interested in any additional suggestions. Any consensus?

I bought one of the soft sockets with the insert that you have to continually glue back in. Finally threw it away. Then I found a soft socket made in Germany by Saltus and I have been very happy with it. I think it is either aluminum or magnesium. I wrapped it with electrical tape to protect the wheel as well. I think I paid $35.

Lee,

I've used a Performance Products soft socket for years with zero problems. It fits my Fikse FM 10's just fine.

I have the impact duty soft socket sold by Pelican. I think its made by 'SIR Tools'. Very well constructed, with an aluminum insert pinned/riveted to the steel casing.

Talking Forget the aluminum....................

Go to Group9motorsports and order a set of 20 cadmium plated steel lug nuts. They last forever...you can put a 19mm impact wrench on them and twist to your heart's content.

Get one of these from the Snap On or MAC guys. They work great. Won't damage the lug nut, and the plastic sleeve on the outside protects the wheel. Much better than those other soft sockets which the plastic that breaks..

Used to use these aluminum soft sockets or ones with plastic/rubber inserts. problem is they wear out relatively rapidly. Also still got some scratching away of the black paint on the nuts. Now just use a steel 6-point deep socket and touch up the lug nuts now and then with black paint.
