Looks like the same color as the 993 in "the best handling car" top gear video. I was trying to find the name of this color earlier and then this thread was revived. There is a similar color for BMW which is estoril. Anyways I hope it is not a special order because I want one.

Kelly, David (ibdavid)-
Thanks for your insights. David, yes my 97 is flat (non-metallic) dark blue (cashmere interior), and appears to me to be that way from the factory. It is pretty much black in very low light situations, and in sunlight it is just plain ole dark blue. I see your an "S", i'm NB; however, the color looks pretty much the same as the one in your sig. I'm guessing (and hoping) you're both right about it being paint to sample, as it makes me feel a bit more "special". I wonder if there is a more specific Porsche-assigned name than just "dark blue", or, is that it? Any others than ibdavid's and mine?
Thanks guys,
Jim

Jim,
Try going to paintscratch.com and plug in the different years for Porsches. The color code comes up with the factory names of the colors. Dark blue is what is listed on their site. Not saying that's the official Porsche name for that color, but everything else they list is pretty much accurate.
You could try going over to the 89-90 forum and see if any of them have the same paint code as you and perhaps one of them has their original window sticker with the paint color listed.
Good luck... always nice to find something"special" about one's car.
