Default Foglight lenses fading yellow?

Greetings to all from Middle East, is it only my 993 or have other noticed that the "foglight" (driving light?) lenses in the front bumper fade sort of creamy-yellow over time? Perhaps it's just the strong desert sun (despite life as a garage queen), but for sure it does not look very good. Does anyone know if any aftermarket ones hold better than the original ones? It seems Porsche must have use lower quality material for those lenses? I notice that lights on for example Daewoo and alike have the same effect...

I just replaced one of my fog lights and it looks nice and white/bright compared to the older one (on a car with only 50,000 KM). I'm referring to the color with the lights off. Yes, they do yellow and I don't think that there's anything that we can do about it short of replacing them.

I think there's a thin film over the lights that gets yellow over time. Of course being the idiot that I was, I did not remove this when I install the stone chip clear plastic cover over the fogs.

I don't believe that the glass is the problem. The problem is the plastic behind the glass yellows over time. "Jeff A 993" conducted a mode where he removed the glass and painted the yellowed plastic. Based on his post I did the same thing using silver paint. I just finished one yesterday. Below are the results.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with cracked fog light mounts!

That's a great idea by the way.... must remember to pick up a can of silver spray next time I'm at the store....and some more clear caulk...

Another small 993 shortcoming. When I mount them I put a washer in front and back of the tab and it seems to hold it in place.

I should add the John (Slant 993) donated four fog lights for my project. Many thanks John.

Is it possible to replace just the lenses or you have to get the whole assembly...I always find the whole assembly for sale but not the lens only...

I believe that Hella (who OEM these) only make replacement lenses for parts that are designed that way.

As these were designed to be "one piece" I don't believe you can get replacement lenses... and I didn't see them listed as part of the Hella catalog when I was looking a while back.

Catalog is here...

http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell.../USA_51_75.pdf

Look at page 71 - only a full unit available - no lenses as spares.

The pricing on these things is stupid though... saw a set on ebay the other day go for over $390!!!

Theycan be had new for $110 each...google search using "65520 fog" for the left and "65521 fog" for the right.
