Default Recommendations on 17" takeoff wheels for a c2s?

My wife and I have started autocrossing our 98 c2s. But, we quickly corded a rear mpsc (-2 degrees, 35 lbs) so we are now looking into a set of 17" wheels and more appropriate, cost effective autocross tires (victoracers?).

Any recommendations on 17" oem takeoff wheels that would work for a widebody?

I'd like to avoid spacers and I'd prefer 8 and 10 widths if I can.

I searched the archives but didn't find much.

The other option is to use the 18"wheels and pay up for the 18" tires. I can't get victoracers in 18's though.

Thanks!
Pete

If you're going with 17 x 10 for the rear (good luck finding something cost effective) and you don't want to use spacers, you'll need to find some with an offset of 40mm to match the OEM 18". As for tires, why not just run the Yokohama A048r in 18"? They are **** cheap compared to the MPSC and fairly close in performance.

Now that I think about it, you can just find a set of 1991/1992 C2 turbo wheels and tires in 17 x 7.5 and 17 x 9.5. Not the exact size you're looking for but at least they'll have the correct offset (although I'm not certain about the front ones).

In the end, my response offers very little value so just ignore it

Hello Pete-

Can I ask - Why no spaces? Just wonder, as the cup wheels are standard with spaces and are available for a resonable price. Also, I am thinking about doing an autocross myself and have the standard 17" cup. (I have a set of 18" but am waiting to wear out my current tires..figure autoX will help)

Thanks and NICE CAR!

Early C2S cars came standard with 17" Cup Wheels and spacers on the rear from the factory; 18s were an option. The factory spacers, or those from H&R, would work fine.

I could use spacers, I guess I just don't find them very elegant and they are another $150. Also a bit more work when switching wheels.

Thanks Tim

Hi Pete,

The 17" Cups are pretty darn cheap, and one of the best bang-for-buck track rims you can get as they come up for sale fairly regularly and in a variety of condition (read "beaten and cheap" for your purposes ). The cost of spacers isn't bad considering you'll likely spend more than the whole package looking for something that simply fits.

But I do see your point about the additional work of swapping spacers in addition to rims at track time (plus brake bleeding and pads) is an added nuisance. So if you are so inlined, there are the aftermarket ones like RH, or MileMiglia, etc that are cast aluminum, but probably not as good quality/strong as OE Cups. Hope this helps.

Edward
