Default Keys and codes

This sounds like a stupid question but...

When I bought my car, the previous owner only had one key/remote combo and didn't have the key code (or didn't bother getting it).

Now, I'm a little paranoid about the battery in my keyfob remote dying and not being able to disarm the antitheft system (and start my car).

Do the rest of you carry a spare battery/and or have multiple key fobs (or have the crazy 'manual' start sequence memorized!)?

Can I just go to a Porsche dealer and get my code and order another key fob?

Thanks

The car comes with two main keys (with remote ability) and one tiny key for emergency unlocking. You can get the requisite keys from your dealer. They have access to the codes and may give it to you to memorise. As for the sequence to open the door sans remote, if you really want to you can carry the instructions in your wallet I guess. They are written in your Owner's Manual.

Good luck with the car and enjoy in good health.

1. I keep a spare remote battery in my car AND a small screwdriver to open the remote for a battery change. I also keep a copy of the bypass procedure & the code (encrypted) in the car since my manual is at home. I have the small headed valet key (photo below) w/my other non-car keys.

2. Yes & yes.

I was in the same positions as you when I purchased my car. If you do a search there is a lot of info on this topic. I purchased my spare remote from Sunset for ~$75 and keep a small key in my wallet. Not all dealers will give you the 4-digit key code for you car. I live a mile from one that would not, and had to drive 45 min. to one that would. Good luck!
