Here's what I have in mine -- PO had it installed. An alternative to the 996 ****, and it looks perfect with the all black interior, to my eyes, and it does work in the 993. If you're interested let me know and I'll take a pic of mine and post it...

95 Carrera is correct. However I don't recall having to remove a nut - check to make sure though... Unscrew / remove the shift button.
With firm upward pressure lift up on the shift ****. With light swearing and determination, the shift **** comes off.
95 Carrera - Heres a bit of shifter **** for you. It took a few months of searching to find this one.
