Default 993 RS question

Hi guys,

I have a friend who owns a 993 RS with an airbag steering wheel. I have a 993 RS wheel on my 964 Turbo and had a spare 993 RS wheel which my friend has brought. His mechanic tho has told him it will not fit. Can anyone see any logical reason why he would say this? It doesn't make sense to me. Surely the spline is the same across the 911/964/993 range.

Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

Lastly... lets say the wheel will fit. What is involved in installing it on an airbag car?

Thanks in advance

Numerous people have done it but the biggest problem is the Airbag fault code ... result from the change.

Try the search function... discussed often. Also a procedure to disable the fault code somewhere.

Good luck.

You can try searching using my name - vuugti - I installed a 993 RS wheel on my rig. I took the airbag bulb out consequently.

I think that Gert (Carnewal) sells a unit to put the fault code off.

Ciao

The 964 steering shaft is not the same as the 993/996 version (the spline lengths are different). So putting a newer steering wheel on a 964 doesn't really work that well. Are you positive that the steering wheel you gave him is from the 993RS and not a similar looking wheel but from an older model (968CS)? In your case the only safe way to have put a 993 steering wheel on a 964 woulda/shoulda been to replace the shaft and turn signal switch, switch housing, etc. Apparantly some mechanics have been using loctite instead of replacing the shaft but that doesn't seem to work that well as people have complained of their steering wheel coming loose. Do you have the part number for the steering wheel that won't fit in your friends 993RS?

That's my mechanic did when I had my MoMo 08 wheel installed.
