Default OT: Thunderhill questions

Hey all,

Just wondering. As I have never driven Thunderhill before,
Is there a Paddock (covered garage area) at the track?? Like Homestead and Sebring have?
Or is it all open, like Moroso, Limerock, etc ??
Are there a lot of spaces, or limited?

I am trying to plan my DE with Tracquest and am wondering if I need to bring an Easy-Up/open car tent. As the event is in mid August and Thunderhill appears to be very desert-like, I am assuming it is going to be HOT HOT HOT and cover is going to be needed for a two day event..

Thanks.

I believe you can rent garages, but I never have. There is a covered area with picnic tables for eating/hanging. The paddock is pretty spacious.

Very very hot.

It'll likely be 95-100 degrees every day in August. There is tons of space in the paddock and they have enclosed garage/storage units although I don't know if they are rentable. If you bring a tent or EazyUp, be sure to bring plenty of tie downs and weight. It can get very, very windy at T-hill in the afternoons and nothing strikes fear in the heart of an EazyUp owner than seeing it lift off and head toward other vehicles in the area.

On a positive note, T-hill is among the best kept secrets on the left coast. The track is an absolute blast with a great combination of high speed sweepers, and technical sections including the "Cyclone", a miniaturized version of Laguna Seca's Corkscrew.

We'll be doing a private track day there on October 11. Send me a message if you are interested. Generally limited to about 50 cars so the driving time is abundant. Instruction and lunch are included as well although 50% of the drivers will be in Corvettes (street and trailered).

the garages are rentable, but very few of them, call ahead.
there's a NEW canopy structure at TH, but can only accomodate about 20-30 cars. you better get their early if you want those spots. many tracquest participants trailer their cars so they will be there the night before to get the prime spots.

other than those, the paddock is huge, but no shades. their is an air conditioned bldg for ppl, not cars. i will be at TH with tracquest, see you there.

Thanks gang...

This is going to be a real rough trip if I don't find a transport..
No extra room in the Pcar for anything.. Not to mention the hazards of an off track excursion... Wish I still had the ability to tow !!

BTW,

THUNDERHILL sounds like an amazing track !!!! That is why I am making the long journey, solo... I haven't seen a track in two years and am itching to get back out.. And, have been told Thunder is great and worth the effort..

As I have only lived in California for three years (two of which I have been to busy to track) I have only had the chance to drive Willow Springs which is close by and Laguna Seca for Skip Barber Advanced Racing School.

I love Laguna and if Thunderhill is anything like it, I will be in heaven.
I love Sebring, Pocono and Laguna Seca... my 3 fav's.. I am hoping to add thunder hill to that list.

willow springs is boring compared to TH.
LS is more of point and shoot track while TH has more corners linked together. you will like it.

Yeah,

I actually hate Willow Springs... I have no enjoyment driving that track for some reason. Maybe because it's all 3-4 gear. I like technical, heavy braking, combo turns, etc..

Willow is pucker up fast, but that is not the type of racing I enjoy. If that's what I wanted, I'd find a nice oval and a big muscle car.
