Default Air Bag Disable Options?

Considering a 993 TT, but thought I might get more insight here. We are adopting our 2nd child this Fall, and the two-seater (Corvette) has to go. Does the 993 have an air bag disable option? For example, Porsche sells car seats that cut off 996 passenger seat air bag.

Thanks!

Your options basically are: 1) find a porsche child seat with a disable buckle. They are $200+, I believe, or 2) get an airbag disable switch installed. I chose route 2), and went with www.airbagonoff.com. I've no affiliation with them other than being a customer. I bought a switch for my 993 and one for my bmw. They have a netowrk of installers who will come to your house and install for you. The switch turns the airbag on and off with a small key. I put my switch in the glove box. In this way, you can use any seat you want (many of us use the britax starriser comfy - which is identical to the porshce seat without the porsche logo) or no seat at all and still be able to disable the airbag. My 9-year old daughter fits fine in the back still.

Option 3 is to get a Porsche diagnostic tool plugged in to *permanently* disable the airbag on the driver or passenger (or both) sides.

Probably not such a great ide as the airbag controller has to be replaced if you want airbags active again.

A lot of people have done the airbagonoff thing.

Just adding a third option... though I doubt many dealers would be happy to do this (option 3).

Get the switch. I did it years ago for my wife's Odyssey. Can't remember the company, but I'm sure they're similar. I also put the key switch in the glovebox. Easy install, too.

I have a somewhat related question. I recently put an adhesive Porsche badge on my stock 993 steering wheel. I've seen this in others' cars too, but can't help wondering it would shoot through my face when the airbag deploys. Is this a safety issue or nothing?

Regarding Option #1 above - I believe the setup retails for much more than $200, you have to pay to have it installed and it only works on a 1997 or later. I did the Airbag on off thing and the installtion was very smooth and switching the thing on and off worked very well. Whether it actually did anything I can't say.
