Come to think of it....on my 964, the clutch mounting assembly cracked from overdue stress caused by a Turbo clutch being in place unbeknownst to me....had to have it welded to eliminate the flex. Tolerance and play is minimal on these assemblies. Glad you found it....as always....back to the basics!
