Has anyone painted modular wheels?
I may be crazy but I am actually thinking of painting the centers of my Cargraphic 19's dark gray or black. Is this a "don't try this at home" or have some folks out there done this before? I assume I am going to remove the centers to do this. I am quite handy and have a spray rig, etc...but have never taken a modular wheel apart before.
Advice???

I took my Speedlines apart to refinish, not a big deal, till I found that the hardware (bolts & nuts) on my wheels was a size not commonly used in the US. Bolts found in germany, thanks to Monique. Do it! e

Good advice on replacing hardware. I would not reuse any "old" fasteners when it comes to reassembly. Kind of a stess thing.

Thanks for the encouraging words. One more question:
Is there a specific torque range for the bolts?

I would contact the wheel manufacture and ask for the wheel specs (torque range) since you will probably have to order the new hardware from them. Be prepared though, the hardware on my whees is titanium (OZ Racing, VellaModulars) and I bet it's not cheap! BTW you didn't say if you had a two piece modular or a split rim three piece wheel. If it's three piece split rim you'll probably need to use a sealer too.

There was an article in Issue: 114 September 2003 of 911 & Porsche World regarding refurbishment of the modular Speedline wheels.

Bolts on those were Torx M7 x 37mm. 40 per wheel, at almost $6 per bolt...

Thanks. I am going to check on the hardware pricing. That will be the go/no go factor.
