That is the way the pin comes. Those slits are more pronounced at one end than the other which produces a slight tapper to the pin.

As for the white connector, mine was white. The rubber in the one you are working on most likely produced the discoloration. Its not a high current carrying connector, so that is not heat generated discoloration.

Were the secondary bearings seized or tight for the belt to fail like that?

Shops like that should get reported. I'm glad I can do it all myself...I'll sleep a lot better.
