Fan Belt Sensor
Need some input.
Yesterday my fan belt sensor light came on. After searching this forum and finding what the meaning of this light was, I retrieved the sensor and quickly realized that it could not be repaired. Looks to me like a $100 part with a 2 minute installation. Got to thinking, if the ithe only purpose of this sensor is to tell me that fan belt is broken, there are two belts there. And when the fan belt breaks you know it....past experience. So will the cooling be effected if only one belt is functioning?
What I'm really asking ",,,is this another example of over engineering?" And can I just jump the connections to turn the light out and continue to drive without the sensor?
Regards,
John

I strongly suggest to keep this warning system operational. Its the only way to know if your fan belt is still functional while driving, other than a sharp increase in oil temps The other belt (aft belt) is for your alternator which has another method of warning you when it fails.
Just remove the sensor and test it with an ohm meter (or the like). Its just a microswitch that have been known to be fixed by tweaking its lever. This providing the roller bearing is still good and not making noise. Even this bearing can be replaced if needed..

Chris, thanks for the response. My bearing assembly is trashed and you mentioned about replacing it. Is there a replacement part for just the bearing assembly?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
