Default OT: Ford Employee Discount

Hi all,

It was in the local news today (Detroit area) that Ford is offering each of its employees four additional "X-Plan" vehicle discounts to give away to friends and family. Apparently this is in an effort to boost sales, and in response to GM's offer to extend employee discounts to the public as well.

My wife works for Ford, and she said she is willing to distribute these (for free) to people that are buying/leasing new Ford vehicles. This includes Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover. She has done this in the past for a few other Rennlist members at my pleading. If they want to chime in as to their experience, that would be fine.

So, in an attempt to give back to the Rennlist community, I'm offering my wife's discount to you. Feel free to PM me for details.

In the interest of full disclosure, my wife receives a token amount of compensation for each X-plan that gets used (which she refuses to share with me due to the number of 993 parts that keep showing up at our door. . .)

Hope this helps someone.

Sure, those along with the Aston Martins too . . .

Sorry, those are probably not included, but I suppose you could ask the dealer. I seem to recall that the program excludes some of the lower volume and specialty cars. For instance, my wife told me a while back that the SVT vehicles are not included. I'd ask the dealer to be sure, and if there's some doubt, I can have my wife ask.

Hey Jason,

That is a really generous offer! I wish I could afford a new car, as those new F150s would make for a really good-looking tow vehicle ...but alas, poverty abounds. Kudos to you and your wife for your generosity, though! You are both an asset to us all!

Can You ask you wife if Jaguar will ever bring back the styling of the E Type. It is one of the most beautiful cars like the 993...

I bought my current tow vehicle ('04 F150) through Jason and his wife who were generous enough to offer me a X-plan deal. The sticker on my truck was about 30k and I got it for 26k with X-plan. No haggling with salesman as the price is set and you can go to any dealership you want. Very nice.

We're happy to offer this bonus to rennlisters. Although I don't post much, I've met some good friends through this forum, and have gotten countless tips on upgrades, mods and problems with my 993. Not being all that mechanical, I have little opportunity to contribute--so when they offered this deal through Ford, I figured I would offer it to all of you here.

As for the styling of the Jags, I can't say that my wife has any knowledge of what's coming down the pipe since she's in I.T. I agree though that styling harkening back to the e-type would be nice.

Kev, I hope the F150 is working out for you. We've given out X-plan to some others in the past for the F150, and they all seem pleased.

Thanks for the nice PM's I've received too.

My understanding is that hey are having so many problems with that car that you would not want one.

I would bet Ford would probably not want you to have one either.

No, for two reasons, too. First, the cars could never be produced and meet modern safety standards without bastardizing the looks. Besides the safety, there would be so many other compromises that Jag could never capture the original character of the car.

Two, there is a big market for the real deal at $50K and up for the Type II rag tops. Jag would not disturb that market.

Also, if you buy a real one today it is almost assured it will increase in value in the years to come. Few new cars ever do that.

I have had a good amount of seat time in a '66 rag top. The charm of the car is not only the looks, but the feel, sounds, and smells that penetrate the cockpit. You can't reproduce those. Best to just go out and buy the real deal.

Actually the rumors about the Ford GT's problems have been blown out of proportion, and are just as inaccurate as the "those cars are impossible to find and all selling for $250K" rumors.

If anybody wants to see the facts about the Ford GT recall and TSBs, see http://www.fordgtprices.com/pages/2/index.htm

(NOTE: You have to scroll to bottom of that page-- there are links to PDFs of the recall and TSBs).

Other than the suspension recall and oil leak TSB (both admittedly embarrassing), which applied only to the first few hundred cars made last year, the other TSBs are TOTALLY non-issues.

Read for yourself and see.
