As between the 2 you're considering, I'd go with the one from AJ-USA -- looks nice and the airbag is a must IMHO.

I have totaled to 911's (not my fault) both non air bag cars. A '74 and a '77. I WAS wearing my shoulder harness both times and walked with minor scapes. My choice for my 993 was an RS steering wheel. I feel perfectly safe without the bag. But then again I drive old 50's detroit iron too - before even seat belts were standard equip.

Skip,

Hi from Mexico!

You know my thoughts: Mom Mod .07 wheel. I wouldn't trade the size, tactility or grip for any other wheel.

WRT airbags, were they not designed to prevent injuries when not wearing betls? I guess the premise is that if you have a bad enough accident,no airbag is going to save you or your face. I have no data to support this assumption.

On the track, do you really want an explosive device scaring the bejeezus out of you should you accidentally tap another car, this big, floppy, smokingly hot bag impeding your car control?

Okay, gonna go work out and then hit the beach!

Mark,

You are on vacation, so go enjoy the sun, bars, and having to do absolutely nothing. Say Hi to Mary for me and enjoy!

I think I'm going to go with the AJ USA type wheel but form FVD like Danny recommended. They have a number of smaller sizes that will buy me additional leg room and keep the street safety of airbags.

I did a little research on the airbag thing and found they were actually designed to go with seat belts and not in replacement of them.

Enjoy mexico.

For what it's worth, I was at a Critical Threat Anti-Terrorism driving course in March. We drove their "junker fleet" for several weeks straight. They (BlackWater) purposefully did not disengage the airbags in the cars equipped with them. So, when we rammed or got rammed in ambush scenarios, we had to react when the airbags went off. It takes a bit of mental discipline to get your hands back on the wheel after an airbag goes off. Stings. Not fun.

Talking Air Bag and Race Cars

I know the answer must be very obvious, but why don't we see air bags in "real" race cars? I have been told they were an option on the 993RS cars.

I have also heard that racing seat belts will stretch under severe impact...I have heard a figure of > than 25%. If this is the case...it would seenm that air bags could be a good thing in a race car.

I did read that there is a fairly SCCA bulletin on the potential danger of full face helmets and air bags...I read about it in Grass Roots Motorsports.

It is never easy..........

Default airbag accident

Hello Skip,

I have the momo in my 993 C4S. I feel very safe because it is a weekend/track car and I only use the 5 point harness. Anyway, I had an airbag deploy when the horn was honked! This was not in a P-car but a BMW e34 535i. I happened when my mechanic honked the horn when turning a corner. It fractured his arm and I went through a year of legal hassels. Anyway, I can't imagin how this happened in the first place nor can I see this happening again. But my point is that I really would not want something like that happening to me at speed on a track due to a little body rubbing...
