Default Cab top cables part number

My cables or driver shafts (listed in another post as this name) shrunk. From what I read on P-Car.com this is normal after 10 years.

Does anyone know the part number; I’m hoping to get the cable only if that’s possible. The dealer and he gave me 993 561 921; cost of $260 each (ouch).

I checked Pelican with part number 993 561 921 02 (listed in PET) and the cost was much less; 993 561 921 03 was a little less.

If any one has gotten them please let me know.

I want to get them from Pelican but want to make sure I have the correct part number, it’s a pain in the neck to return.

TIA

Doug - my last 4 of VIN is 2992; I'm guessing it will not work??
However, the dealer did give me the part numebr you have??
You know the dealer never asked me the VIN just model year.
I guess if some one can confirm it fits I'll take it - thanks.

Doug, I might be interested in that cable.

My VIN is 0215, so it should work? However, I need to chek my stransission first, as i'm thinking the problem might be there. Any pointers?

Pointers? Get a coupe, like I did ;-)

There was a post about this where someone went to a marine place and had cables made that were the correct size and length, for about $10. I think it might be on p-car.com if it wasn't here. After all, it's just a length of twisted cable with a fitting on the end.

Vic, just the guy I need! Can I call you to pick your brain on that? Do you still have the extra transmission? I need to try something.

I just took my driver's tranny apart. The gears are not stripped. When I spin the cable by hand, the large arm moves. Which is good. Now, the cable seems to be way too short. I took it out of the sleeve, tried to stick it into the motor separately... motor turns, I feel vibration on the cable, but the cable's not turning.

Thoughts: I can try to shorten the sleeve to see what happens. I can get a new cable made, but want to make sure the transmission is OK (it seems to be). I can buy a cable from Doug or somebody else. Now, does it come with the sleeve? What's on the other end? How does it attach to the worm gear on the transmission.

Oh, one important thing: No coupe for me!

PS. Are you coming to the autocross? You are, right?

I gave the transmission away to the guy who bought my cab ...

I can't think why the motor would turn but not move the cable ... are you sure it's not the "other" motor turning (they are in the same housing, I think). The used transmission I got from LA Porsche Dismantlers came with the transmission, cable, worm gear and the sleeve. The end that goes into the motor is just the end of the cable. The sleeve just carries the cable, I can't see how shortening that would do much of anything.

Here's the post I was referring to:

When's the autocross? If it's this Saturday, no can do ... my Grateful Dead band has a gig at The Attic in Newton and I need to be well rested ;-)

Well, I tried to stick this cable in both motors, the cabls's not turning. i was doing it sense sleeve, but it still should turn, right?

The idea of shortening the sleeve is that right now the cable doesn't come out of the sleeve on the motor side, therefore not making the contact with the motor at all.

PS. Vic, the autocross is this Saturday, next one is next Sunday, the 19th.

Thanks Vic - I did see that on p-car.com; i thought about having the cables made...but no idea where.

Plus the time factor is important to me. Mind you right now I'm looking at $500 for the two cables and if I can get someone to make for 20 buck that would be great.

But right know I don't know where to get them made and I need the top to work.

So if someone has bought them and can confirm the part number that would be really helpful.

TIA
