Comments about you car
This may be an old topic, but it is new to me as I'm new to 993's.
Recently I moved from a beautiful Ameythyst '91 964 Cab to a Arena Red '97 993 Cab. During the five or so years I owned the 964 I maybe had 10 poeple stop me in a parking lot, on the street or just anywhere to comment about the car. Since owning my 993, a period of 2 months, I must have had 30 to 40 people stop me, roll down their window to comment, talk to me at a gas pump, or some odd place about my car. Granted most don't know anything about the age or make of the car, but they think it is cool. And does not seem to be any demographic. The funniest one was at a stop light when a retired couple in a motor home were both straining to get a good look at the car as I pulled away from the stop light. Or, last week I was at the local Albertsons, you know parked far away from everybody, and I come out and have to walk the 100 or so yards to the car. Well two women, not bad looking, in their 50's were both standing over my car, when they saw me headed to the car there quickly got in their car and left.
I'd be interested in hearing other stories about who your 993 attracts!!!

I've found that kids love 993's. Last summer I watched a parent drag his son away from my car in a parking lot, the kid's eyes fixated on my car the whole time. Just this weekend as I was washing my car, a woman and her son were walking by. The son, about 3, kept saying "I like it" which then turned into "I need it mommy, I need it". It was good for some laughs.
I agree. I get more positive comments about my 993 in a month of driving than I ever got in a year of driving my Boxster (and without getting into a discussion of which car looks better, I loved my Boxster as well, with the Arctic Silver and Boxster Red interior).
It seems Arena Red is an appealing color to many people. Using the Boxster analogy again, I was looking at an AR Boxster at our club event this weekend, and was amazed at how well it distinguished itself amongst all the other Boxsters. Also got some nice comments from some fellow members, which was much appreciated, since my car is definitely a daily driver, and far from a show queen.

Similar stories here. My wife and I were at dinner last night. Eating on the patio, we watched as at least 15 different people stoped to look at the car parked next to the patio. Families, kids, couples, almost everybody who walked past. I do get tired of cleaning the hand and nose prints off the glass caused by unseen admirers. I frequently have people ask if that thing in the back goes up and down.
Biggest problem I've found is explaining why I called it a 993 and not a 911.

i have never driven a car to which so many people had such strong reactions. one co-worker recently offered to trade me his 2 year old lexus and his new motorcycle for my car...i pointed out that lexus was probably worth more than my car and he responded, "are you kidding; no way is my car worth more than a new porsche." he nearly fell over when i told him my car was now 9 years old :-)

Yeah, same here. I guess there are so many "nice" cars in So. Cal, it's hardly noticed. But I do find that the older 55+ crowd seem to make a lot of comments about it as well as the kids. Not important but interesting...
I get comments like others here from just about every demographic....ladies, guys kids...all ages. I'm not even sure many of them even know what its is.
Here in the good 'ol south (Nascar country), you don't see to many black stealthy looking cars around, mainly just the typical Bimmers, Volvos, Lexus...etc.
I was at a DE 2 weeks ago with it, and a guy came over to me from having just walked away from his NEW black 997 and told me how much he loved the look of my car....was it the factory paint/color, and did I spend all my time buffing it because it had way more "gloss" than his brand new car did. Having taken another look from afar, he was right, you could see a difference. I had to break his heart and told that, no I didn't spend all of my time on it.....oh and by the way Sir it has just shy of 100K on the clock
Gotta love these cars! They truely are going to become a colllector I believe.

A week after purchasing a 964 I was filling up with gas when a female voice said "love your car." I had a quick flash to a post I read on Pelican about someone at a gas station that ran inside to pay and returned to find a blonde in his passenger seat. He asked "do I know you" and she replied "would you like to?". Anyway, I turned around to see where the "love your car" was coming from, and it was a 14 year old girl wearing a night brace on her teeth that was walking by. Kids are definitely more attracted to my car than adults. When I drive by a school bus, the kids lose it.
