Help! Added 1qt Oil and now I've got smoke and pool!

Was the oil up to operating temp? Also, you must pour it in very slowly.

The oil was bone cold....I know I should've gotten it warm first. Would this impact the possible overflow/overfill? Haven't checked the actual level with stick and warm. I'll do that this evening while it's smoking like a 75 Chevy Vega!

ALWAYS check and add oil with the engine HOT...the hotter the better I have found...when the oil is cold the dipstick and gauge won't register correct readings at all.
