I can speak firsthand as to benefit of proper safety equipment. In addition to 5 or 6 pt harness to be sure lapbelt doesn't ride up into your abdomen, always wear a neck collar when at the track in a harness & helmet. Just my opinion (not based on science) but if there is little belt stretch with harness (as compared to stock 3pt seat belts) and you have additional weight of helmet, then your neck will be exposed to more trauma. A 993 roof is extremely well engineered but if you are harnessed and you just happen to roll onto roof in a bad way, you don't want to risk head compression without at least a rollbar.
