Just went to LA and back for a quick Disneyland trip w/ the Audi A6 and V1. Couldn't believe the amount of warning on a straight stretch like I5. My experience in Northern Calif. and along I5 is that the CHP runs their radar in an always on mode which definately helps except for the air patrols.
After using an Escort years ago I think the Valentine with directional signal is hands down superior to the others.

Another recommendation for the V-1. Just got back from Rosarito Mex. today, It was the first trip with the new V-1. It's not a huge issue on I-5 because EVERYONE is doing 85, but it is a good test of range. On the way south it picked up a bogey on the Ka band, tracked it for 20 seconds until it I had a solid tone, and boom, Ponch and John passed in the other direction, must have picked them up at least 3/4 of a mile down the road, maybe more. Then tracked them as they faded out on the rear signal. SWEEEEET!
The only problem is my neck.. sore from looking through the sunroof for the CHP planes!

My M5 has the K40 non-detectable radar detector. This works very well and is completely hidden. The V1 sounds good, but I wish there was a way to hide the main unit too. Anyone have suggestions/solutions?? Need air coverage too
Thanks!

Scott thanks. Its all about getting the good stuff out there. I dont condone horrific speeding but on the 14 normal traffic does 75-80. I would have got nailed. the I5 I have done 90 and got passed by grandma in her corolla. Its just you need protection and for my money this is the best one.

I have a brother-in-law that flys a E-2C Hawkeye. Does not talk about alot of the codes but has explained what an ALR-89 Threat Warning System is. What is a ALR 167 Bullwinkle? PM if you want to share. I am also an avionics, freak.
PS, should you just happen to have any electronics on your 993. The CHP freq of nature is:
VHF (Primary) 122.8500
VHF (Secondary) 122.8750
Helicopter Air to Air 123.0250
Fixed Wing Air to Air 122.7500

Here are a couple of sites:

I thought I had seen some other sites, but these are two.

here is a link to the most reasonable stealth install i've seen on a V1 (there is a place called ai designs in NY which will do nicer)
i think this type of install would be reasonable on a 993 coupe.
http://www.talktax.com/lidatek-V1%20install/
I have my v1 mounted up high by the rear view mirror and the hidden remote in the ashtray. it works very well for me and the v1 is high enough that its not noticable unless you are looking for it (and likely would not be seen by police driving by or standing next to your window)

I love my V1 and it has saved me dozens of times. I don't speed in heavy traffic or places that I feel I am going to put someone else at risk.
There is two situations where the V1 and possibly other good detectors can fail you. One is instant on radar and the other is laser. Here in the ticket revenue state of Washington, the WASP have gone to these types of radar units so it makes it tougher for us to avoid radar.
I was out on the Olympic Penninsula in the middle of nowhere and got nabbed by the instant on. As I was over the speed limit and there was nobody else around (which is why I felt OK being over the limit) I didn't benefit from "hearing" the radar signal from the cop as he shot other cars.
Oh well, paid a lawyer to handle it for me and he got it dropped. I would just as soon pay the lawyer than the state when they let people get away with other crimes while they are giving out speeding tickets.

I paid $200 and there would be no fee if he could not get the ticket dropped or the infraction postponed for good behavior (and then dropped). It was a $153 fine so I wasn't out much more than the ticket and it is off of my record and insurance. YMMV
The guy I used was in the Seattle area and advertised in the PCA local magazine.
Cheers

I'm beginning to think you are a national security threat.

I got snagged at Tahoe. Anyone know an attorney in California that does traffic? I can go to traffic school, but I hate to use it up if I don't have to.
