Default What happened last night

Slightly OT maybe...

This is what happened yesterday.

I was busting my *** writing final paper and preparing presentation for the client. It was 1AM. I got hungry and sleepy so I went out to buy a coffee.

As usual, I drove around I95 for a short run before I hit coffee place.

What a blast, and pss9 is just so right for this car.

The place was packed by late night ppl.

I got the coffee, and got into the car.

Started up and since we dont have cupholder, I was busy doing releasing hand break changing gear steering left and right changing gear and so on with one hand.

At that moment, a MEAN thing happened.

A girl who was watching me and the car with her boyfriend speaks quite loud.

" That car sounds stupid"

Huh? Come on....you dont have to say it loud just to make sure I hear it. If you dont like it, just dont scream so!!!!

At least her boy friend didnt say anything, that I appriciated. Maybe he had an idea how 993 sounds at 5000rpm+.

It was the most unexpected and not a pleasant moment and still I wonder what stupid sound sounds like in her ear. Maybe Fabspeed will impress her?

I agree that she was being 'MEAN' and could use some help in being tactful, but I do give her props for being honest and told you something that probably 99% of the population wouldn't.

I LOVE the looks of my 993, but I do not like how it sounds, at all, even with Fabspeed mufflers, although that was an improvement. Let's be honest, the sound emitted by an air-cooled 911 is an acquired taste since it sounds just like an old VW Beetle!

At least her boy friend didnt say anything, that I appriciated. Maybe he had an idea how 993 sounds at 5000rpm+.
Again, another acquired taste at high RPM, and one which I do not have.

Out at Road America, the worst sounding cars by far are the air-cooled 911's. There is nothing musical about their 'blatting' exhaust note whatsoever, not to mention the din of their miscellaneous engine-clatter.

For comparison sake, the best sounding 'stock-type' cars at Road America are the V8's with their smooth-sounding exhaust. By far, the best sounding of all belongs to a blue/grey Porsche 928 whose exhaust note can only be described as 'musical' while ripping around the track.

If interested in how that 928 sounds, right-click and do 'Save As', and fast forward to 7:17 and watch/listen as the 928 and Z06 zip by on the front-straight:

The above link was lifted from here:
http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1

This past weekend at RA there was a red Viper GTS, and it's big V10 sounded horrible on the front straight; just like a big ricer, no growl nor rumble at all. But what a beautiful car!

Two years ago at RA there was a red 355 F1 Ferrari, but I was not impressed with that either as it's exhaust-note sounded 'flat'; again, what a beauty!

The bottom line, if you like how the 993 sounds at idle and at redline, then nothing else should matter. Additionally, there is no doubt that the 993 is one of the most beautiful, sexy cars to ever roll off an assembly line, but too bad it doesn't sound better! Regardless, I still love it.

IT WAS ***** ENVY. I MEAN P-CAR ENVY. IT IS THE SAME THING.

What she really meant was I rather be in your car driving around. She was moved by the car, the sound all of it, but could only say the most negative comment possible so as to deny her true feelings.

Supercups. Not for everyone but they make the 993 sound great IMHO. I have never had so many comments on the sound of my car. All good ones.

If you like how it sounds who cares about some girl who has no appreciation for what a 993 even stands for.

Maybe it's just me, but who gives a rat's a$$ what someone else thinks. I didn't buy my 993 so that I would get approval from others. I bought it because it's what I like.

Every person has their own opinion and as long as it doesn't infringe on me, they can say whatever they like. People are too thin skinned these days.

OK, I'm getting off my soap box now (we need an icon for that).

Well I gave a good friends daughter a ride in my car last night, we drove along coast hwy in Huntington Beach and then back up main street, she said two things to me after we got out , 1. I love the sound this car makes 2. Did I notice how many people were looking at my car., by the way she is a hot, very hip 22 year old.

I had a 928s for about 10 years, with Borla Exhaust and little else in performance mods, and that thing used to make the finest music to my ears. I do miss it.......almost makes me wish they still made them!

Just finished putting a set of Cargraphic free-flow cats on my 993 with RSR's.. OMG!! it's amazing.. there is this nasty growl.. it's like a nasty rasp and I swear you can hear the cam lobes! @ 5K it gets kinda out of control.. If she heard this she would get a Robin Sun tattoo on her lower back!!!

She probably doesn't know the true sound of an engine and how an exhaust effects it. Her experience of a car sound is probably the current trend of Ricers and their exhaust - in other words, no sound of the engine at all, just a big "whistle" attached to the back of the car. That's all they really are.

The Heart of a car is the Engine.
The Anus of a car is the Exhaust.

Would you rather hear the beat of the heart or tweak of the ***?

You all have it wrong!!

She was gawking at the hunk driving the sexiest car she has ever seen...or heard. The boyfriend suddenly turns and catches her drooling. She sees trouble and a cold bed that night....and yaps the first thing that comes to mind: ...'that car sounds stupid'......

What a moron.

I would have told her that I am the victim of uncontrolled flatulence and the sound of the motor covers the other sounds.

On the otherhand, are you sure she doesn't post here?
