Do you have any experience with Motons? How do they compare to JICs?

Thanks.

I agree with Tom; for just a couple DE events per year, I'd definitely stick with Euro M030 suspension instead of PSS9 or JIC. The PSS9 is not very comfy around town or highway, and it sounds like JIC would be even worse.

I agree completely with Scott and Tom - I had the 8kg/12kg setup as well.

Alexander,

I have the Moton Club Sports and 600/800 lb springs. On the street, it is certainly more than a tad stiff-legged over less than smooth pavement. It's not overly harsh like a mid '70's live-axle Camaro, but, IMHO, the Motons are something that you should consider only if your car spends most of its life on the track.

Thanks, Mark.
From whatever information that is available on the web, it seems that while you can get 'street' JIC setup(softer springs/existing shock mounts), if you go with Moton setup, then it's all new game for track only - you go with custom springs(what springs do you have?), monoball(spherical bearings) shock mounts, right?
Pricewise it seems that Moton is more expensive than JIC also?

I am struggling with temptation of making perfect street car more track friendly for those DEs. I don't think I will have any problems with stiff street ride and I don't drive the car on street a lot anyways. So, since I have to spend money on new suspension anyway, why not to spend a little extra and go one click stiffer from PSS-9. And it's not THAT much more if you look at PSS-9 prices...

Thanks!

Alex,

JIC's are a great cost option because they come with monoball mounts and camber plates. The ride is tolerable on the street - just not good for daily driving or long drives.

You have to spend more $$ on a Moton setup than on JIC but it will be better still on the track. And probably still streetable for short, infrequent drives - depending on your tolerance and expectations.

When I say street, I do not mean daily driver. I mean spirited weekend drives. Not errand-getting.

I have been in PSS-9-equipped cars before (in Boston, of all crappy roads) and did not feel they were too much of an issue. Never been in a M030 or JIC-equipped car, though.

Still have to think about it.

Ben,

oh, I haven't realized that JICs are coming with monoball mounts... Thanks. By the way, did you need to have any changes in other parts of suspension(drop links,...) to have JIC/CROSS suspension installed? Reason why I'm asking is that Gert sells the PSS-9/RS sway bar package and he includes drop links into that package.

But I see now why Motons are more expensive - they have remote reservoirs.
Also, I realized that there is another similar sounding suspension setup - JRZ. That one is more like Motons, correct? Anybody have any experience with JRZ?

Thanks!

Viper Bob supplied specific drop links for the combination JIC/TRG bars.

Thanks, Scott, for the pointer.

It looks like you may need to have new drop-links, which will work with new swaybar - one type of drop-links for RS sway bar(for C2/Turbo only), another for TRG swaybar. I wish I understand geometry of suspension better, though, to be certain of that.

Is it possible to have JIC/RS sway bar configuration? There is magic in this two letters: RS.

Alexander,

The Motons and JRZ's are very similar, the Moton founders having spun off from Dutch JRZ to make their own dampers. Supposedly, the Motons are a better product with stronger customer support. PM Greg Fishman or Danny (DJF1) since they both run JRZ's.

Here's one thread on Motons versus JRZ's. Lots of threads in the archives.

Thank you, Mark, for pointing to that thread. Haven't realized that in might have been already discussed.

Speaking of Fedex, I ordered a new dash for my 928 and those bastards lost it. Now I have to figure out how to get it. Two weeks before this deal, they temporarily lost a different shipment.

Alex,

JIC and Factory RS sways were what I had - VB provided the rear droplinks and mounts to accomodate the RS bars. Front droplinks are unrelated to the coilover.

Ben, thanks. I should have bought your setup!
Have you got JIC/RS swaybar from VB as well? I wish when I'm ready to get the whole package from one knowledgable source, like VB or Steve W. in order to avoid surprises with one part of package not working with the others.
