Renting my car out

Renting my car out
I was asked if I would rent my car for 2 days for $800. Am I nuts to consider this? I'd obviously size up the guy first. It's not a garage queen, and I've only had it for a few months. I don't know who was driving it before I bought it... Sounds like easy money. Anyone do this?

I'd say not no, but 'hell' no.
Aside from the obvious potential of a loss from accident. Just think how many times you can hit the rev limiter in two days of driving.
Not worth the risk.

Are you crazy... certainly you are if this isn't one of your best friends! Would you rent your wife out for 2 days for only $800.
Actually, later in life that wife rental deal acutally could be a good deal.

If he is really a good friend why would you charge him anything? If he's not, why would you let him drive the car? $800? One trip to the garage would make this a losing proposition.

You must not love your car to even think about renting(whoring) it out... IMO, anyone (including your best friends or the Pope) who is willing to pay that kind of money is not going to baby your car... I guarantee it. Well, it's your car.

I actually don't think this is such a bad idea. If you check him out and get a personal reference, maybe a DMV check (which is easy), I think it's easy $$...I don't know about you but I run my 993 HARRRRRD - there is little chance he could run mine harder than I do...I would have some ground rules though:
1> Limit the miles - say 100 per day and $1 for every mile extra?
2> 'You Break it You Buy it' policy - in writing...
3> It must be cleaned before it comes back - at least as clean as it went...
4> A signed check post dated for $1000 to be used as security...
5> Drive a couple miles with him to be comfortable - especially if you have a 6 speed.
If he agreed to all this I would do it...Fact is he probably wants to just show off a little and take his other out to dinner in style - makes him feel important. Why not share the experience and get paid?

Like I said, it's not a garage queen. I'm not as obsessive as most people on the forum. I don't think twice about handing it to a valet or parking it at Costco. It doesn't have any dings - just a few clearcoat scratches, but I don't baby it. It's more than a transportation appliance to me, but it's still just a car. I'll brew it over and let you know how it turns out.

I would have to agree with Pong. If the guy kills somebody in your car, it may very well be a great deal of pain you. Let face it, he is not going to be doing the posted speed limit, no matter what he tells you or says he will sign.
Just my 2 cents.

If you just consider it another car, then I do not see any problem renting it out. If that is really so, why do you ask in the first place? I would never do it, because I don't consider a 993 just a means of transportation.
