On on a non p-car I've installed a second oil temp sender elsewhere in the system and a switch to control which sender is feeding the gauge. The means nothing visibly changed inside the car but does require a fitting at the 2nd measuring point that can take a factory temp sensor.

Phelix,

Great idea. My mechanic wanted to do something like that (except using a second gauge), but it didn't seem (to me, at least) trivial to tap into the oil line to install a standard temp sensor. But your idea with the switchable factory gauge makes a lot of sense. If I didn't already have a decent solution, I'd probably explore this pathway.

Thanks.

The oil temperature sensor on the top of the oil cooler up front connects to pin G12 on the back of the climate control unit. Readings are as such:

60C/140F 3.6 - 4.0 k-ohms
85C/185F 1.4 - 1.6 k-ohms
100C/212F 0.9 - 1.0 k-ohms
