Default Help with purchase?

Hello,

Interested in purchasing car from an out of state porsche dealer. I have had no luck locating independent shop for PPI. The dealer recommended one near by, but the guy at the independent shop seems to know the dealer well and vice versa. I'm afraid it may be bias and not to the best interest towards me. I ask the dealer for a 30 or 60 day warrenty and they refused because it is a 96 993. Said the car was to old. Should I have the dealer do a compression test and leak down test (~$650) anyways? If I find that they hid anything afterwards can I hold them liable if test is normal? I am having the independent guy look at it anyways, but he doesn't perform the compression test or leak down. I am flying out to see the car, but outside of cosmetic I am a rookie at looking at used cars. Anybody with any suggestions I may consider? I'm a little nervous about spenting ~$50k from car outside state? Should I wait and find one locally?

thanks.

You don't say where you are from and it's not on your ID so you are making it harder for any of us to recommend a place to take your car or give you feedback about either of the shops you refer to. I had a full PPI, including a leak down. All was perfect, that didn't change the fact that in the nearly 50,000 miles I have put on the car I have had to replace many major components that had I not had an extended warranty, would have cost me $25,000 + (including a completly rebuilt engine). This is no time to shoot dice, get the full service and repair history on the car, get a PPI you can trust, or get a steal of a buy, otherwise, you may find yourself making a major investment you did not anticipate.

Also, stuff breaks. Just this week it cost me $1,300 to have the oil changed, the alternator changed, the brake pad sendors changed and a few other things I could not do myself. Bet then again, I spend the money I need to spend to keep the car perfect at all times, others don't. Is the car you are looking at a "kept it perfect all the time" or a "I can defer that" kind of car. A PPI will only tell you part of that answer.

Hope this helps.

Ask if a rennlister in the NC area has knowledge of this
car/dealer or would mind taking a look at the car for
you. Change you thread title to something like,
NEED SOMEONE IN HICKORY, NC TO INSPECT 993,
and so on. You get the idea.
