Default OT: New Jag XJ8 "do not use synthetic oil"..

Is what the dealer has told me for my new XJ8. Strange huh? Anyone know why this might be?
BTW Jag recommends oil change every 10K. I guess if I can't use synthetic I'll have to pay for the "in between" oil changes at 5K.

That's because putting expensive oil in British cars is a waste of money since it drips out the bottom nearly as fast as you can put it in the top...

Just kidding (and I'm actually a fan of British iron)...I've never heard such advice for a new car before, that is odd.

Anyone know why this might be?
Most likely part of a marketing strategy to bring as many vehicles to their service department as possible for expensive repairs.

Synthetic oil creates total and complete confusion in the Lucas Electronics - or wait was it electricity? air? water? Just kidding!
Everybody I know who has owned a Jag has said that while they are wonderful cars, you'll get to know the service writer on a first nams basis!

Good luck!

As I suspected. The car takes like 10 quarts. Maybe they don't want to pay for synthetic since it's included for free.

That's just ****ed up!

I'd call Jaguar and ask what's recommended from factory, complain to Jag USA (if there is such) and then go back to that POS dealer and let him know what I think about ******** like that.
