Price this for me
I know what NADA, KBB, Edmunds etc. says about this car...& I know what the owner is asking....Id like to get your opinions on a fair price for this 993 Cab.
1995 Guards Red 993 Cab. 55K miles. 3 owner vehicle. 1st owner owned it for a very short period. Car has been driven only 8K miles in the past 5 years. Service book has stamps of all regular services, including 55K service. Im told that records are available upon purchase. (?). Car is about an 8.5 out of 10 on exterior...there is a small dent on the rear valance. This has me a bit concerned. Owner says he will fix this for me prior to sale. Front bumper has been repainted due to rock chips, it looks great. Interior is near mint. Car is all stock, with no upgrades except for some 18" chrome rims that I would soon be replacing. Car runs great, drives excellent, engine appears clean, no leaks etc. under car.
What is a fair price for this vehicle?
Also... what kind of performance can be gained on a 95 via Chips?
gracias
PS: My 86 Cab is so loud, rough, noisy, squeeky compared to the 993... but I love it...

You don't mention the stock options which will affect the price. Judging from the above info, I'd say a low of 33 to a high of 36 depending on PPI and options. A chipped 95' will gain about 20hp and will be similiar to varioram engines in terms of performance gain.

Thanks...not sure of the specific options. It has air, power everything, manual 6 speed, leather etc. First thing Id replace would be the wheels, followed by the stereo system. Top is ok, has some very small tears near where it folds down. Comes with boot, complete tool kit etc. its priced below your estimates btw...im thinking of pulling the trigger on it, the thing holding me back is this question:
'do i need another Guards Red 911?' but they are different cars all together...

I'd say $33k. You'll need a new top within a year (those holes get very bad very fast) and it'll cost you $2k.
By the way, a chip WILL NOT get you 20hp. 10 hp maximum. 12-15hp if you use race fuel, which I'm guessing you don't.

Assuming clean ppi, no major bodywork, no other issues beside a top that needs to be replaced in 12-24 mos, and no other options (full leather, motorsound, cd changer) then I would offer $28-29k and be satisfied with $32-33k - a MY95 in excellent condition with decent number of options can fetch $35-37k if it's the "right" color for the right buyer. Also check to to see if the wiring harness and top motor lock recalls have been done. On the PPI you should ask (or take it to an upholstery shop) to check the top cables, transmissions, and motor (in addition to the motor locks)...the cables in particular wear down and need to be replaced if the top is used often.

Very interesting...as I'll be buying a 911( around June) as garage companion to my "Old German", I have been checking the market for 1989 Carrera 3.2, 964s and 993s (stretching my budget a little bit) but I have never seen a 993 under $30k...most of them are right on or over $40k...are the sellers exaggerating the asking price to have a good negotiation margin? I'd love to hear a little more about you 993 guys "real" market experiences...thanks...

Pedro,
It sounds like you are looking for a Sunday driver garage queen companion for your 356. If that is the case, then no you will never find one below $30K. If however you are looking a nice clean 50K mile C2 coupe that runs great but is not a concours car or garage queen. Then $30-$35K is the current market. Expect to pay $500 for an RSR exhaust and about $1500 for suspension and lowering springs. If you want 18" wheels then another $1500-$2000.
I bought my 1996 C2 coupe last summer for low $30K. Car was perfect with 25K miles. I got real lucky, but they are available.

Thanks Daniel...I'm definitely not looking for a garage queen...I do firmly believe that the P cars are meant to be driven...the 356 is my daily driver from November to April...although meticulously maintained (I change oil every 500 miles), I drive it all the time, just like the regular car it used to be 40 years ago...
Does your car have the Varioram induction system already? Do All the cars with the "Varioram" system have the name marked on the manifold ?

I would think $28-32K is fair. Pedro--you may be looking in "the Mart", the PCA classified section. Seems that every month I look in there and see some idiotic pricing for a lot of the cars, the 993 in particular. There was one I saw last month for a 95 993 in great condition, didn't say the mileage, and they wanted $44K for it. HA! Basically values are all over the place but Autotrader.com is a great place to look, run a carfax on the VIN, and if the carfax comes up clean and the car looks to be in good shape, pay to get the PPI done, then go see it in person.
