Love it! Sure, give me an extra gear. I will love it more. I have had mine for a little more than a year now and still have not once used the automatic mode. It has been a blast trying to figure out how best to smoothly get the right gear at the right moment. And, this tranny seems bullet proof! I can't wait to find out how well a supercharger will work with it!!

I'm pretty sure that's it ( I know when Porsche puts an "S" on something we all expect a lot...). I think the steering wheel buttons were an option in the U.S. on '95 tips, and standard on '96+ tip cars.

FWIW, relating to this thread, It was with a little trepidation that I bought my tip - my first automatic. But as my almost daily driver, I have learned to really love it. If you know what you're doing, the fact that it's a four speed is immaterial. It's fun as hell, on both back roads and in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

"Slushbox", or not, it's mated to that beloved, raspy, air cooled 3.6 flat-six in the rear, razor-sharp handling and brakes , and is nestled into the most attractive sheetmetal sculpture to come out of Stuttgart to date (IMHO).
The fact that the tip transmission lowers the price of admission to such a spectacular car, just makes the grin on my face that much wider. It seems that us lowly tip drivers are the lucky beneficiaries of one of the most bizarre prejudices in Porsche-dom.

I've had a Supercharger on my tip for 34k miles now. Not missed a beat. I cant help but smile when I take less than 10s to do the ton. Both the Sc and the tip complement each other.

It's English for 100MPH.

Default The Tip haters??...I'd like to hear your comments please

According to the poll, there are supposed to be 10 Tip haters out there??? Well, I sure like to hear the haters to comment something about the transmission...or are you the "posers"??? Because only comments I've heard so far are nothing but praises.

I think the "haters" are the macho types who feel an automatic dilutes the breed of what a Porsche sports car ( or ANY sports car ) "should" be.

To each their own. My sig. line says it all.

I'm still interested in hearing from the 'Haters'... I'm starting to believe the 'Haters' are not even Tipsters.

All my Porsches are tips!

It's an intelligent transmission that is fun and involving.

And it has Hurley Haywood's endorsement too.

BTW, for those with steering wheel buttons (tipS). Its an easy reversible mod of the steering wheel to make the right button go up and the left button go down the gear box.

I am more interested in disconnecting them. I always shift using the stick but on several occasions I have accidentally bumped the steering wheel buttons causing the car to down shift at inappropriate time. I am in the market for a 3 spoke with out the buttons.

Michael
