Default My new ride

Now that I've moved to a condo, lost my garage and sold my C4 cab, I'm back where I used to be ... in a 95 Carrera 4 coupe. She's guards red over cashmere, 46k miles, and I got her from Euroclassics Porsche in Richmond VA.

Before I say anything else, I have to thank Larry (Berkley) for giving me the headsup that Euroclassics had exactly what I was looking for, and a special thanks to Keith (kdurg) for giving the car a lengthy test drive, taking numerous photos and reassuring me that the car was a nice as it sounded. It's hard to buy a car long distance, and it makes a Rennlist membership more than worth every penny when the community reaches out to fellow enthusiasts like this.

Life is interesting sometimes ... after the car was located, it turned out that the dealership did not have any records on the car. This made me nervous at first, but the sales manager pulled a Carfax and warranty history on the car and it emerged that before his dealership got it, the car had come from my own state ... Massachusetts. A little more detective work and I discovered that the car's previous owner was a Rennlister ... Scott (who goes by Stinky on the boards). A further irony: Three years ago, I actually test drove this very car at Hatch and Sons, really liked it but it was priced out of my budget range. A few months later, Scott was inquiring about the car on Rennlist and I advised him that it was a nice example and he bought it. He traded it in on a 997 locally this winter, the car went to the Mannheim auction and Euroclassics bought it. So, this car that I was buying sight unseen I had actually driven before. How's that for a coincidence? And, Scott has the records for me.

For two years, I've regretted selling my previous guards red over cashmere 95 C4 coupe to another Rennlister, Jason (JasonF) ... now I've bought the car's twin.

And, as a quick aside, the purchasing experience from Euroclassics was a pleasure; I dealt directly with Michael Falcone, the sales manager, and he put up with all my questions, had the car immaculately prepared for delivery (even putting on a new set of rim caps because he noticed the originals were faded on the final detail and throwing in a new set of black floormats), picking me up when I arrived and being patient waiting for the funds while my home sale closed. When I was leaving, he surprised me with a nice gift basket with a bottle of wine and other assorted niceities. Buying a Porsche is a special day, and it's always great when it becomes a pleasurable experience, untainted by haggling, disappointments, rude behavior ... unfortunately, many of us have been through that at both independent and authorized Porsche dealers, myself included. In this case, I would definitely recommend Euroclassics. They had some tasty cars on the lot at the time, too, including a guards red C4S.

And, as a final bonus, I got to meet Keith and Larry (and their Porsches) at the dealership when I picked up the car, and then had a great drive getting acquainted with the car back to Massachusetts. So, a toast to Rennlist ... and thanks again Keith and Larry.

Vic, congratulations! She sure is a beaut.

I too regret selling "our" old car. I'm afraid to contact the buyer, who lives in Burlington, VT and planned to put snows on it and drive it through the winter. I would imagine that the car now needs a respray.

Just watch out for old ladies pulling out in front of you!
