Plating exhaust tips ...
The tips on my standard exhaust are plenty wide, but perhaps a bit plain. Anyone have any luck with plating, hot ceramic coating, etc., and at what price. Is it worth it?? Will the standard fancy exhaust tips from the TT or other fit on a plug-and-play basis??
Thanks,
Thanks,

Yes, easy to remove. Two 13mm wrenches are needed (or one 13mm socket etc.) to remove the pinch bolt that secures the tip clamp. Spread the clamp and off they come

I think plating (chrome) and coating from Jet Hot and Performance Coatings has been kicked around here a bit. Chrome plating works and the ceramic coatings are duarable but not aas shiny as chrome.

Don't chrome them...asking for discolorization and I don't believe it may last that long. Just polish them, they are stainless and they look better than chrome....

Mine were chrome plated almost 4 years ago. Look good as new still, and zero maintenance. If you polish, you will have to polish on occasion to keep up the lustre.

Thanks for the input .... perhaps I will start by just polishing them myself (in place?), and then go from there depending on how it looks and lasts .... on a side note, I am very impressed with the resources available on this site on almost any topic from the mundane to the complex :-)

Go to the "all forums" then down to the DIY's at the bottom of the page.
Lok in 993 DIY and lo and behold, Graham Mitchell describes a very easy DIY. I did it his way. (Good title for a song that!)

ceramic Coatings of exhaust tips
I Just picked up mine from Top Gun coatings in Calgary. they charged me $40.00 Cad for both (32.00US) my regret is did not do the whole Exhaust.
PM me if you want more info, this suplier will not work for US people because of Customs stuff, but for Canadians its an option.
Top Gun offers a very nice service. ask for Loraine

I posted a long while back about polishing the tips. It is the basic 40, 80, 120, 220, 360, 400, 600 wet sandpaper, and then emery cloth, polishing compound on a rag wheel, and then Autosol with a rag. Every 3 or 4 months you have to touch them up with the Autosol. The sanding is to remove all the pitting.
They have a different color than chrome as they are stainless steel. They look good. I also had a set grey ceramic coated for something different.
