O/T: When did white wall tires went extinct?
Hi,
Yesterday, I saw a 1976 gold Buick Riviera rolling down the road with all-white side wall tires. Looks like a gold-fish on glazed donuts.
That reminded me that when I started driving in the early 70s, all the tire stores (especially Sears and K-Mart) were advertising white wall tires. The car ads would even memtion white-wall tires as if it was a badge of honor. So I paid more attention to cars on the road these days and NEVER see another white wall tire. May be I wan't paying attention, but when did white walls die out?
Kind of brings back fond memories when cars were all new and exciting to me, WAAAAAYYYYY back then.

I'll confess. I like raised white letter tires. Only on certain cars though.

Woo Hoo what do you mean? When I'm in LA, I see some late model devilles with them, Vogues I believe.....but as others have said they started to fade once the US makers decided to put "Euro tuned" in their advertisements -
