Default Hi...I'm new...looking for a 993C4S

I've read some of the buyer's guides and realize I need to get a PPI before I purchase, but does anyone have a lead on a car in nice condition that has a fair price? I've been on Ebay/Hemmings/Dupont Registry/AutoTrader/Rennlist Classifieds, but it seems that a lot of the cars in nice condition are charging an incredible premium. What should I be looking to pay for a '97 C4S w/ 30k miles? Oh, also...what is a leakdown test and why is that an important part of the PPI? Thanks for the help!

You can also try Cars.com...that's I where I found my car. FWIW I did get a PPI but no leak down test. My car had 37k miles, every reciept and cancelled check through all 3 previuos owners so the tech doing the PPI didn't feel it was nessecary. When I bought my 964 I didn't get a PPI at all....not that I would recomend that. For me a big part of buying a car is the PO. Does he seem meticulous? Is he an enthusiast? Does he seem look a good person? Still he could be full of s___t so better to get the PPI now matter what vibe you get.

The wide body cars seem to really be fetching a premium these days. I paid $33.5 for mine and it was a 8 to 9 on a scale of 10. Of course I ripped everything out of it anyway...lol.

Oh...PCA.org classifieds as well.

Other than the mileage, what's your color preference? I might have to sell mine in the near future.

For a price guide, I'm picking up a 97 C4S, midnight blue with grey interior, litronics, hifi, motorsound, heated full power seats, 26.6k miles for $52.5K on Saturday.

I just bought a 1997 C4S, 61k miles, excellent condition, dark metallic gray (haven't identified official color yet), black interior, motorsound, Kinesis Porsche Super Cup wheels...for $37.5. Got an independent PPI with compression and leak down tests (great numbers), test drove car, spoke and met with owner a few times, spoke to dealer where he had it serviced, clean Carfax, service records from around 20k miles. I feel I got a great deal.

Robroy makes a great point. That TT is such a deal that if I was looking to spend 50K + on a 993 I might be tempted to try to scrape the extra dough for the TT.

Seems like you did get a great deal Bailey, welcome to the board.

Allow me to be the first one to tell you to lower the car.

Congrats!

Is this the color of your car?

I believe it is Slate Grey. Very nice color. For me, it's a toss-up between Arena Red (my car), Slate Grey, or white.

This is nice as well and looks like different colors under diff. light...Aventurine Green.

Thanks for all the info, guys. Damn, that does seem like a good deal on the TT. I don't really have much of a color preference, (although arena red isn't high on my list) On a whole, however, aren't TT's more prone to reliability issues/expensive repairs? That is a pretty car in Colorado...and I'm looking at cars.com as we speak. I'll keep you updated with my search...thanks.

atmarcin,
Ray at RPM Sports Cars has quite a few. Check them out here:
http://www.rpmsportscars.com/inven.htm

He has one 1996, 4 1997s, and one 1998. He has great cars, most with very, very low mileage. His prices usually reflect the market, so you won't get a deal per se, but his inventory is hard to beat. I have bought 2 from him.

Default price point for C4S

I just joined the board myself after picking up a 98 C4S for $40k with an extra set of hollow spokes with track tires and a ton of other mods. I had a PPI, along with a compression check, talked to the owner several times and extensively drove the car.

The funny thing is the car looks just like the slate grey car on Arrwins post, even the Recaro seats and the Rennlist sticker and the same... Once I get my Rennlist member number I will post some pictures.

Good hunting,

Arlen
