I was talking to a fellow 911 owner and got on the subject of 911 horsepower. He stated that the horsepower listed under specifications in the owners manual was rear wheel horsepower. He went on to say that Porsche always uses rear wheel numbers. Is this true??? Does anyone know for sure. State source of this confermation. Please I hope it isn't true.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure 993 numbers are CHP, and the RWHP is around 230.

Edit: My 928 is also listed as CHP from the factory. Your friend is just mixed up.

NO! No automobile manufacturer lists rear wheel horsepower. There are too many variables from car to car, from model to model and between transmissions and final drives.

You hope this isn't true?I wish it was. I would rather have 285 horsepower at the rear wheel,as opposed to at the flywheel. By the time that horsepower gets through your drivetrain, you loose quite a bit.

Got a feeling that the 350 HP on the new 911 S is

He probably hopes it isn't true so that he gained 90 hp instead of 50 with the supercharger.

Red got it exactly right. My car dyno'd at 202 rwhp before the SC, 322 after. My butt-o-meter is most pleased with the SC results. It just bothered me what this guy was saying. I trust the Rennlist collective mind bank.

Thanks everyone !!!!!!!!

What dyno, did you test on and under what conditions (temp, humidity, pressure). I registered 240hp at the rear wheel on a Dynojet at 75F, 50-60RH, and ~30in Hg (with ~ 93.5 octane). The guy running the Dyno said that was a tad more than a new 350Z with 287 crank hp (different drive train, I know). The owner's manual states 270hp as the output for a 95 C2..

202 rwhp sounds very low. A 96 C2 got 223hp during the same day but detonation was audible during the runs. 322 hp sounds fun, however.
