Painted Rear Spoiler Grill - Thanks cabrio993
After seeing a photo of Sergio's (cabrio993) beautiful white cab with the spoiler grill painted the body color I was inspired to do mine. I know many others have done this as well. I think it looks great - much better than the black plastic. Anyone want to know what a pint of Arena Red Metallic cost? Wow !!

I would estimate a pint would cost between $65 to $75 if it was Glasurit or some other really good brand. The clearcoat cost would not be included in the price for the colorcoat.

Mike,
Do you have a pic standing directly behind the car with the wing recessed ?
Did you use the original grill or paint a new one and swap 'er out ?
Looks really good......

Ron:
Exactly right. $75.
Keith:
Thanks. That's the only pic I took. I was at the hangar and won't go back for a few days. If you want another photo, I'll be glad to take one. I bought a new grill and 'surgically' removed the old one in pieces. Very easy to remove if you do it this way.

Hey Mike!
Looks great! It matches perfectly.
I think the painted grill makes the rear look wider somehow.
maybe we are starting a trend here?
here is a couple of mine...

Sergio,
Thanks for the inspiration. I was hoping you'd see my post. That is one fine looking cab you have. The cabs really have great lines. And your house isn't bad either !!
My good friend, mechanical genius, aircraft mechanic and philosopher friend (Bill Ostrander) took time off from the annual inspection on the Bonanza to paint the grill and he did a great job. If he ever gets the plane done, he'll toss me the keys and utter those famous words, "Cap, I think its ok. Go fly it and see if everything works." Yes, he really says that.

I knew it wouldn't be long before Keith kicked in.
Wow, that looks so much better. I'd be tempted to do it on my car but I don't think it'd make much of a difference with black on black.
Perhaps I should do a dark gun metal or something...

Very nice Mike! Looks great! I'd have to agree, the body-colored spoiler looks much better. $75, eh? How well does the paint apply onto the plastic and where do you get the paint?

Phil:
Thanks. Now if I could only get those piston rings to seat so I could feel the extra 'power'.
Arrwin:
I think Bill spent about $150 for supplies, including a special prep for a plastic part, clear-coat, etc.. Any body shop can paint this part easily, its nothing special. Because the grill can be seen from the top and bottom, he painted the entire piece, just masking off the ten 'nubs' that stick through and have those spring clips on them. The grill is a # 993-512-587-00-01C and the speed nuts are a # 999--591-390-02. Grill was $86 and the speed nuts are $.50/ea. With the body shop labor and all the parts this is probably a $350 deal.
I'll ask Bill and see if he has enough paint to do another one. Paints on me and we'll never use it on anything else. Just pay for the grill, speednuts and Bill's time. I can send it to you or hold for install when you come to WG.
