Default Tach - light issue

Have any of you had to replace the bulb/s that light the tach? Mine keeps going dark (the tach gets dark around the 1-2 o'clock position)...

I don't know about replacing lights, but I have an extra Tach is you are interested. I would sell for $100+ shipping

Never had a tach bulb go bad - in old '76 or '84 911s or present 993. Guess if this is persistent you've got some sort of internal wiring problem that's burning out bulbs.

Hey George,
There are two lights in your tach. One on the left side and one on the right side. My left side bulb was out when I bought mine and that was a winter project to replace it. Pull out your tach and unplug it. On the back side, there are two pale yellow colored plastic hexagon (?) shaped pieces with a small slot in the center. Those are your bulbs. I used one of my tiny flat head screw drivers and turned the yellow piece 1/4 turn and remove it. I bought a replacement from a Dealer for $5.00.
Hope this helps!

As usual, Rennlist is THE source for P-Car info. Thanks guys!

BTW - This a DIY operation? I just pull my tach out? Or do I have to disassemble my dash?

The gauges slide out toward you, but be very careful! The first time I pulled my tach out, I dented the trim ring on the oil gauge. My fuel gauge comes out the easiest, then I just work my way across the cluster!

agree with gordo993 - be careful - the black paint around the rings comes off as well :-(
