Default Engine tray on or off??

Have read lot's of posts on this so here is the question, is it necessary to take the tray off? what good does it do besides protct the motor. If it is off is this a hazzard?? Can't decide wether to take it off or not

Took it off this weekend finally at 28K Mi!!! -hope its didn't do any damaged of cooking the valve guides for the last 10 years with the Previous One owner who left the tray on. .- Sounds better too and less weight!! I guess better late than never !!!!

Mine is off but i've noticed that the lower valve cover starts to collect crap especially if I drive it in the rain otherwise no issues.

I'm going to try it off only because it may make the engine noise more accessable to everyone.
