Default Rear seat belts won't uncoil?

I took my rear seatbelts out several months ago while working on my car, and I noticed (or at least I think I noticed) that they would not uncoil once they had spooled all the way up. I didn't fiddle with it since I don't ever have more than one passenger. I'm going to have to carry a rear passenger tomorrow, so I will have to reinstall the belts. I would go down and research more, but I have to hit the sack. Does anyone know how to make the seatbelts uncoil so I can reinstall? Thanks

You have to get them at the exact angle they sit in the car so that the locking mecanism (gravity/momentum ball) will release.

Luis is right. Also, you have to unwind them very slowly.

Went through the same issue some time ago. Verly sloooooowly is the answer. This is a common problem on rear belts. Since my 4 year old uses the rear seat extensively, I ended up replacing the belts with new ones from Gert.

For what it worth, mine did not want to unspool neither. It progressed from bad to worse - fiddling and "playing" with the belt to get it unrolled was taking longer and longer.
Until I unbolted the spool, disassembled and reassembled it back. Since then it is working great - unrolls smoothly if you pull it gently, locks if you jerk it. I am not sure what the problem was - it might be that two small sprockets inside the spool were getting too close to each other, their teeth meshed together and they were getting locked.
