Default Tomorrow I change my avitar, because I found my 993!

I have found the 993 for me.

Three months, talked to every Porsche dealer within 300 mi, Rennlist classifieds, Autotrader, Cars.com, ebay….every day….

The best car ended up in my own backyard. The closest Porsche dealer got a ’97 back in on trade and it is the perfect car for me.

All I’ve been looking for is a factory stock late model (’96-’97) silver 993 Coupe 6-speed with low mileage for under $40k with no major issues.

Here’s what I’ve finally found:

’97 Arctic Silver 6-speed C2 Coupe, gray interior, non-smoker car.
29.9k miles
Motor sound exhaust (Bonus!).
Only one owner, and it was sold to the couple by the same salesperson at the Porsche dealership I’m buying it form. A complete history
All manuals, compressor, spare, original sticker, service records, miscellaneous receipts, and all stamps in the book consistent with being driven ~ 3,500 mi/year.
Absolutely no sign of the car ever being in an accident or any bodywork after a very long inspection.

Here is what the dealer is going to do for me (included in the purchase price):

30k service – Oil, filters, belts, plugs, air filters, pollen filters, flush brakes, etc.
Fix oil leak – new valve cover gasket. (everything else is totally dry)
Fix third brake light LEDs – replace entire LED assembly.
Nail in tire – replace right rear tire with a new S03, left rear has ~ 40% remaining.
New front and rear hood shocks.
New horn.
Belt pulley update.
Probably some other stuff I haven’t found out about yet.

Service that I may have to do in the semi-near future?
Brakes and rotors are at about 30-40%
Left rear and front tires are ~ 40% (right rear is new)
Still has original shocks.
Clutch is a bit stiff but engages fine.

The only downsides that I’ve found:
Factory radio replaced by an Alpine CD/radio.
The car was very dirty/dusty when it arrived from New Mexico and needs a lot of TLC.
The dealer has to, and said is going to sort out the problem with the Carfax / NM DMV odometer issue.
Scuffs on the drivers L/F seat in front of the electrical switches otherwise the interior is excellent.
Door check strap is coming lose and needs to be fixed eventually.
Headlights need to be cleaned out.
LF bumperette is scuffed up.
There are some scuffs under the front bumper and some small scuffs and scratches on the body that will likely come out with a good polish but no problems overall with the paint.

A huge “thank you” to everybody here at Rennlist and especially GrantG for educating me about the 993! You have been an invaluable resource.

Tomorrow I put everything I have learned into practice. I hope I get some sleep tonight.

Sounds like you found a good one...congrats!
I would go ahead and see if the dealer will give you a discount and replace both rear tires as it's not a good idea to replace just one tire on these cars...and then you will forever have one tire that will be more worn than the other side. WRT to the bumper...hmm...maybe a Euro TT bumper should be your first mod

Blaine,

Congrats!!! I hope you enjoy your 993 as much as I enjoy mine. When I got mine, it wasn't 'perfect' but I've truly enjoyed the many hours I've spent working on and improving it. It truly is an awesome car!

The one thing that I can recommend that will extend your enjoyment and elevate your appreciation for Porsche products is to join PCA and do some drivers education events in your car. You'll love it!

Best Luck and Regards,

Scott

Well done Blaine,

Congratulations! Too bad it's silver..

My opinion is the same as Speed Racer... get both rears changed. If you have LSD, it is an absolute must.

I would also get S02A iso S03's. S02A are stickier and last as long as S03's. These are more cardboard than tires.

Congratulations Blain. Clean her up and post pix. Sounds like you did real well. I second the two tires and the S02A instead of the S03s.
Enjoy.

Thank you everybody!

The digital camera is in hand and I will post pics when I pick it up later today, and change my avitar!

About the tire, they already put the one S03 on and I told the service manager again and again that I"d pay for the other S03, but he said that on a C4 or a C2 with a LSD he would change both, but on this car it would be a waste of money. I seriously may do it anyway.

PCA - yep. Now that I am an owner again! Before I moved out here to Chicago, I was a member of the San Diego region PCA. This is going to be a big change form my '85 1/2 944! We didn't have a real track per-say. Here in Chicago, I think it is Road America. Oh boy......

Ok, gotta get some more work done on my thesis.....

Congrats, you will love the car. Warm the motor, hit WOT, combo of varioram and motorsound and flat 6, can't beat it. Thank goodness for the rev limiter!

Sounds like a great car. A little TLC and you will be all set. Get ready to start "DOWN THE SLOPE"

Good Luck!

Mike
