So just to clarify you have the OEM short shift kit that Gert sells, correct? You think the $99 is a good investment and the difference in shift quality is greatly improved? Just want to be clear before I push the "ORDER" button on this one.

Thanks.

993 Guy,
I did this on my race car so take this comparison with a grain of salt.

I had a street only 993 Carrera S with stock shifter/clutch/flywheel.

My race car has short shifter just like the one Gert sells/lwf and clutch. The shifting in the race car is very precise and quick where the street cars was not so much so. Is it worth $99? I can't answer that for you.

I have the Factory SSK and I like it a lot, and for the price, you can't beat it. I originaly bought the Weltmesiter SSK, but part of it did not fit my car??? I tried to make it fit,.... can't return it now! What I may do is use the adjustable shift rod (with the heim joint ends) and mate it to the Factory SSK so I can set the 'for/aft' position of the **** for a better fit and feel for me. Seems that just because there is a "P-car" connection, the price is jacked up!!!!

To me that looks same as the OEM.
Not exactly same since it has holes and it's wider like you said but in principle, it looks it would do exactly what OEM piece does. Maybe other dimensions are different also but hard to tell from photo.

I have OEM short shift kit and I like it very much.

In any case you need to jack the car up, I don't see how you could change this without getting access from underneath.

Not to complicate furthur, but I have heard good things about the FVD short shift (about $149) as an improvement over the factory kit. Anyone using the FVD?

I installed the factory short shift (RS) in my Turbo. There's some swearing involved mostly because I'm slow at installing things and was dropping dirt into my eyes but I'm happy with the results.

If you just want the shorter throws, you just need the folk and the lever (pictured on first post) and all the kits are basically the same. Installation may not require getting under the car (don't remember exactly). If you want the firm and solid feel, you need to also buy the shift rod which you must get under the car to install. The factory kit and the Weltmesiter offer this shift rod for additional cost but their shift rods (not the lever) are totally different in design. The factory's shift rod is much more straight forward to install and just by looking at the design, it seems to be much better. I don't know why Weltmesiter designs their shift rod that way (the factory's is patented ?), much more complicate to install and not as efficient (my opinion).

I installed Gert's Short Shift Kit last year and am very happy with the shorter and more precise throw. It will never be like my '67 Vette with the Hurst, but it sure is a lot better. Well worth the money, IMO.

If memory serves, the shift **** will end up about 1" higher, which, IMO, puts the shift **** excactly where it needs to be. Less of a reach.
