Default WTB 993 2S

Guys/Gals,

A friend of mine just sold his boxster and is interested in finding a 993 2S to replace it. This friend likes his cars in good shape mechanically and asthetically, but also plans to track the car at DE.

He has started the search and has found some good examples, but I know this community has it's hands on the pulse of the 993 market and could help turn up a bunch of examples. So, if there are any cars out there that you know of or have seen please post them here and I'll pass it along.

Thanks a bunch,

-Skip

Default Widebodies and NB on the track

I really like widebodies too, but here's an opinion...

Straight out of the dealer, the 2S may have been a more track-adept car than the narrowbody. But 7-10 years on, any 993 being prepped for the track is going to need updating on some of the things that set the 2S apart from the C2 when new...you're going to replace/upgrade suspension, brakes, etc on either car.

I've heard others postulate and I am certainly biased here that there is an argument that a well-optioned (Factory short shifter, LSD, etc) C2 does make a better/more economical track car than a similar 2S. And you will certainly pay a premium for the S over a C2. Weight is a huge factor in tracking also, and the C2 starts off ~60-100 lbs lighter (forgive me I forget the exact amount.)

My $0.02.

John

John,

I know both of us are biased, but things to consider:
- short shift kit is very inexpensive upgrade;
- LSD is great, but it adds weight and if original OEM, then is usually shot by this time already anyway.

Wide bodies take larger wheels in the rear, which might make a difference for a track event.

Yep, lots of +/-...this has sparked several intense strings!

Purely aesthetically, I prefer a widebody.

I have a C2S with many mods. If I were doing it again I would prefer a C2 as a track car, as the C2S has more tendency to understeer (larger rear tires) even with TRG adjustable bars set soft in the front, hard in the rear.
