really good advice all - maybe we should consolidate into a "how to" for all new members to keep their cars in good running order

So . . . . .

I did a search on a certain topic and this thread popped up.

Talk about a blast from the past!

Entertaining none the less . . . .

Thought I'd give it a bump.

Happy New Year!

Regards,

.

So I guess I break a couple of the rules.
1) I Drive it to work all summer- private, secure parking though- so not so bad....
2) I drive it in the winter ( occasionally- with snow tires and extra set of wheels)

I do however:
1) change the oil at 6K or less,
2) keep it VERY clean wheel wells, underside, etc.
3) replace all worn parts before they fail
4) Regular maintenance and inspections (annually)
5) I don't track the car (yet)

Car only eats about 1/2 a quart every 5000 miles with 100K on the clock now. no smoke, no codes, purrs like a kitten and pulls like a freight train. fun car!

Would have set my life on a whole different course when I was 3 months into 911 ownership at 18 with a broken engine.

Anyway, I think everyone should regularly do burnouts to keep a 993 in top shape.

Funny how a decade later, we've just revisited this topic.

A big NO no no if you have a track car with Lexan. Wipers on dry Lexan can scratch it.

If they say they can't, go to a different wheel shop. Modern balancers should have a setting for wheel weight offset.

Yup. Builds up in the panel gaps too. (the ones that don't open, i.e. bumper to fender, lights in housing). Behind the liners, under seals, etc.

7. If you upgrade your headlamp system what so ever, install relays.

(A good idea if you use high wattage Halogen rally lights 110W+)
