Default Lowering collar ?

Stock on left, Hergesheimers on the right of course. I assume this is correct and the black lower lock collar is not used, or is it?. My concern is the weight on this collar by itself. I'll call Hergs on Monday to be certain, I just didn't know if anyone else had install experience w/these.

That's is my understanding of the 'disadvantages' of the lowering collars......weight and more difficult to corner balance....AK

Sorry, I wasn't clear. When I said weight I meant the weight of the car or specifically the spring or supported weight resting on this piece of machined billet and wondering if I need to install the additional black collar for support.

I would guess I'm picking up an additional 1lb at the corner at best. Never heard any issues about corner balancing.

AK, you just installed, what do you go with as far as ride height ?

I would think the lowering collars give you the same as or more than as far as adjustibility and corner balancing. If that's not right, let me know, as I plan to order a set soon.

I had the same problem with the front struts on my RSA.(I look at your board because we share many problems) Couldn't get front of car low enough. Looked at lowered perches, then decided to thread struts down 1" more. The cheapest 50m 1.5 thread die was 155.00 and I would still need the wrench to turn the die. Thankfully one of the tool vendors suggested that I have a machine shop put the strut in a lathe and do a "single cut thread". Called and found a shop that agreed to look at the job. Next day they were done and I was out 60.00 for both. The collars move faultlessly over the entire range from original to new threads. My advice if you need lower than the factory provides to go this route. The rears on 964's taper in right at the end of the threads so no help with this method but I don't need lower in rear. If you can't find a shop in your area PM me and I'll forward the name/address/phone. (Denver,Co.)

I went with standard RoW M030 ride heights ~ 144mm Front and 127 rear.....I used Gerts Bilstein's with extra threads and there is room to go lower....but I don't like it too low for my needs....Good luck Tom!!!!!!! AK

I had no problems with corner balancing and the collars are pretty light. 1lbs at ea corner at the best is nothing too me.

Thanks.

Tony,

It's 25 3/8 front and 25 5/8 rear with 180lb weight in the driver seat.

I spoke to Mark when I purchased mine. He described the install just as you have shown. I asked if I had to worry about the collar moving without a locking collar and he said it does not happen. I like the clean look with the collars.

I thought it was funny - the inconsistency of the Bilstein labeling. Trivial, sure, but I am surprised at the lack of consistency in a modern manufacturing process. Employee A labels one way and employee B has a different method. The labels on my shocks were labeled randomly as well.
