So today, some moron in a truck while parking in front of my office building hits the fire hydrant, all of the water pours into the underground parking structure. By the time I find out my car is in water up to the door sills. No water inside from what I can tell, carpets are dry. Now the problem...

The car starts, the spoiler goes up by itself, the brake pad light is on, the ABS light is on, the speedo is flipping around near 180 - all while I am sitting in the car at idle. I move the car to dry ground, turn it off and back on, same problems, (spoiler, lights) and I feel the ABS pump charging in the brake pedel -except the speedo is back at 0.

Any suggestions?

Did you check the boot? I bet there may be water in there where some of the electronics - including ABS - reside.

Let it dry completely before doing much and turning on electrical components and starting it....check all areas for sitting watter and get it out....borrow a hairdryer if necessary....sorry to hear about the damage.............my .02 AK

Holy ***t !! What are the chances of that happening? I agree with Steve, probably water came up through those three of four trunk drains and flooded some of the electronics in the front

Let it dry for a few days. Should be fine afterwards, I'm sure. Fresh water doesn't really cause damage to electronics.

I'm really sorry to hear about your bad luck Fred. I think you should report this to your insurance co. right away and find out whose insurance co. will be responsible. It may be yours, the buildings or the morons. Good Luck. This may be an upgrade opportunity for you

Insurance called, claims in motion. Too bad Steve is not down here, I could have him replace my ECU with one that has been "flash upgraded". The car is on the way to the dealer. Looks like the ABS pump and controller, ECU, Cruise Control and possibly the imobilizer will all need to be changed out. This really sucks, I hate dealing with insurance companys, particularly the moron's. Plus, I won't have my car. On the bright side, at least the HIDs didn't get installed yet.

Re: DME- Try giving Steve a call as I was just emailing him last weekend and he happens to have a DME already flashed and ready to install... plug and play. A little too much $$$ for me, but if the insurance is gonna be picking up the tab... plus you would have your old one to sell.

good ya got it to the dealer though as i'd be afraid to drive it until the 'abs' etc. is sorted.

Sorry to hear about that Fred. If the drivers insurance fails, you probably have an actionable cause against the building owner as his drainage pump either failed or was inadequate for the job.
Great op for a ECU upgrade.....

bad luck Fred !
all of the after effects point to the speed sensors (ABS) and brake pad sensors. Hopefully it is an easy fix that puts you back on the road soon.

You are lucky... if this happened to me, it would take months to dry out the car.

AK has good advice IMO. Dry it thoroughly, then start tackling the remaining probs.

Sucks though.

Wrong!

Water damage is the MOST problematic event for Porsche electronics, as with all electronics.
The integrated circuits used were not designed for submersion in water. The water
MUST be removed immediately or a total failure will occur. Even if the ECUs (electronic
control units) function, they may have a long term reliability problem.

Porsche thoughts to remember;

1. Don't leave a Porsche Cab or Targa out in a heavy rain.
2. Don't drive a Porsche in a heavy rain or thru deep water streets.
3. Don't park a Porsche where it may get flooded.
4. Don't take a Porsche to a car wash.
5. Avoid using large amounts of water during a DIY car wash.

The abs sensor relays are under the boot beside the spare tire. I think it may have gotten to your DME under the seat too. I'd definitely go for the change in DME (to Steve's) since his carrier should be paying.
Query though, would not this be reported to carfax as flood damage. You might consider a dimunition in value claim as well if that is the case.
