This is my first post of many to come, as I am about to be the owner of a 97 C4S.

I had to chime in on this thread because I was invited by Pin to come out to Laguna Seca on Monday to watch and meet some of the great people involved. So I brought the family (my wife, 3 year old girl and 5 month old boy) down from Lake Tahoe for the day and within minutes of arriving, Pin had given me his helmet and I got a ride on the track with an instructor.

This was my first ride on a race track, and I have to say, it was one of the coolest experiences of my life! After what seemed like 100 laps in a Honda Civic I was totally hooked (I can't wait to experience a Porsche on a track!), but I did get out of the car a little woozy. My wife said "Are you ok, you look really white!?" It took a while to get my legs and eventually I was feeling better, but the motion sickness was more than I expected.

After the ride I finalized my decision for a personalized license plate, "SKDMARX". I didn't check my shorts after that ride but all I can say is the plate seems fitting!

I just want to say thanks to everyone I met at the track, everyone was so nice and welcoming to me and my family. It was a great experience for us, my daughter even got to sit it Marks Radical for a picture. My wife was not very comforted seeing the smashed NSX (neither was I), but from the overall feeling of the people we talked to, I think she is pretty comfortable with me getting into this.

In the next week or so I should be driving my new car home to Tahoe, unfortunately to park it in my garage for the winter. There will probably be a few days that I can drive it, but the winters are deep in Tahoe, we already had 2 feet in my driveway last weekend! Even when it isn't snowing the roads are so grimy I don't think I will be driving much until spring.

Anyway, thanks everyone for contributing to such a great site and I look forward to being a part of the crew!

Phil, I really enjoyed meeting you, I'm anxiously looking forward to Sears Point also! Laguna was a blast, even if I did have to quit early Tuesday.

Thanks to Kim for helping find someone to fix my car. I will pick the car up, with a new clutch, on the way up to Sears Point. Oh well, I guess that's what happens with a track car.

I went out for a ride with DJ, those Radicals are something else! Of course, I didn't have to worry too much about any movement, since DJ pretty much fills up the cockpit all by himself. I also couldn't see out (I really need a booster seat!) except coming downhill out of the corkscrew, so that was my favorite part.

Sears Point, here we come!

Pat

I did get a ride in Marks Radical and his description is terrific. I have had a hard time articulating what I experienced in his car. It is nothing short of sheer exhilaration. Because of this intensity, if seems as if you can feel every movement that the driver makes. There really is no need for diapers, as I experienced very little fear or terror. Both the driver and car are increadibly capable. What I was amazed by was what the car (and driver)could do in so many places and the intensity of it. The traction, downforce, exhilaration and how Mark gets the rear around some corners is mind boggling. Marks description of turn 2 is right on. If feels like he is on the brakes going into the turn so hard and late that he could stop an elephant. He then drifts the rear around the turn, then WHAMMO back on to full throttle and I felt like I was being lauched from Cape Canaveral. After that, it seemed as if he hardly slows down for any other corners (except 8&11). Kinda hard to jump back into the Porsche after that.

How do edurance racers withstand all of those forces for so long? They are definitely atheletes.

This is a bit off topic, but I recall reading an article about a two-seater Indy car built by one of the major sponsors. (The passenger seat is behind the drivers seat, not side by side, in case you were wondering.) The writer of the article got a ride with Mario Andretti (at Laguna Seca, no less!)! He said the G-forces, combined with the hard suspension, were so brutal that he couldn’t focus his eyes on the apexes, turn in points, etc. I will always remember that one!
