A WEISSACH suspension mod for a 993
hi you guys,
When I heard that the new GT3 will be compatible in acceleration with my 993 Turbo (pics of my 993TT (0-200 km/h in 14.8 seconds, view GT3 test and video on my homepage ) I decided to shape my car up to be able to compete better with the GT3's track performance..(at least to come closer!)
However, after studying all available suspension mods available for my 993 TT I was able to reduce it down to two different possibilities:
The Bilstein PSS9 and the Porsche offered WEISSACH Suspension!
I have read a lot about the PSS9 so far, but I was unable to gather any information regarding the Porsche WEISSACH suspension...
Am I wrong to assume that the resale value of my 993TT is higher when I use a Porche mod??
What does the WEISSACH Suspension consist of?
Is it noticably better for track use than the stock TT suspension?
And is the Bilstein PSS9 good enough to forget the Porsche mod?
If I went for the PSS9: Is the mere suspension kit enough or do I need a strut-brace, adjustable swaybars in order to create a real improved handling?
Can anybody help me please?
Greetings from Germany

Duke,
I have a normally aspirated 993 and installed the PSS-9 kit last year. I have been very pleased with it, but would personally prefer if it was about twenty percent stiffer. The softest three or four settings on the shocks seem to be a waste to me. I find the ride on the street to be perfectly terrific when set mid way, and use the firmest settings on the track and would like to see that a little firmer.
The strut tower brace is a must, even if you don't modify the suspension.
Don't know anything about the Weissach suspension for your car.
Good luck.

The Duke writes,
Question #1: "What does the WEISSACH Suspension consist of? Is it noticably better for track use than the stock TT suspension?"
Question #2: "And is the Bilstein PSS9 good enough to forget the Porsche mod?"
Question #3: "If I went for the PSS9: Is the mere suspension kit enough or do I need a strut-brace, adjustable swaybars in order to create a real improved handling?"

I do not claim to be an expert, but here is what I know:
Question #1: The Weissach Suspension refers to the rear suspension, mentioned in Porsche advertising as their LSA suspension (Lighweight, Stable, Agile) or some such approximation. The good news, you already have it!
Question #2: There is the Bilstein PSS9 suspension that is installed using all the factory mounting rubber, with springs that are not all that stiff. Some say that the mounting rubber for the 993 is too soft, and the resulting ride is like driving a couch (This is not my opinion..but that of a friend who feels the stock Porsche mounting rubber is too soft, and he has since gone to a non-Porsche monoball set up).
Since you are in Europe and you have Euros (E) to spend, if you want the best possible set up, why not go with Porsche factory parts, the suspension from a 993 RS car. It has sealed monoballs front and rear, uses adjustable sway bars front and rear, has hardened rubber mounts, is fully adjustable for ride height, uses Evo wheel carriers and improved tie rod ends.
Better yet, buy a 993 RS car...it has 300 HP and incredible handling. All the special suspension parts are included. If you buy the 993 RS Club Sport, you get the G-50 32 transmission and the light weight flywheel and clutch...in addition, both cars come lightened, with a full aero package.
The car only weighs 1270 Kilos, or 2800 Lbs. Your Turbo car weighs some 1500 Kgs, about 3300 Lbs. Just think of the performance increase of a car that is 230 Kgs lighter!
Question #3: If you decide that you want a flying couch, add the PSS9s, and be certain to include the RS adjustable swaybars and strut tower connector. The strut tower connector is less than 200 (E)...not that big an investment, considering what you will spend on the PSS9s and RS sway bars.
But before you spend one (E) to improve your car, take a 993RS for a ride on a twisty road. I would own one today, except, it is a real pain importing a 993RS car into the US, issues with no air bag, air polution, etc.
Last option, take your car to Ruf and tell him you want it to handle better...they will fix you right up!!!!
