My Cobra has a damaged wheel, and while we try to figure out what to do, I put that teensie little space-saver spare on. It was really low on air, so I decided to use my Porsche air compressor to fill it to the prescribed 60 lbs. The compressor looks like its never been used, but wouldn't you know it, it wouldn't work. I plugged it into the Porsche cig lighter (which works), and flipped the compressor switch and NOTHING!
What can I do?

Scott,
You're way too generous to me. But enquiring minds just have to know... how'd you get two of those things? Do they both work? Want to trade one of them for the used A/C outlet duct where the (still useless) boost gauge now sits? No? OK, how about three cats? Plus a guinea pig? Plus a PCA badge that has your daughter's name on it?
So, what about Willow?

The Porsche lighter socket works with the key off. But you bring up an interesting point. Why is the porsche socket a non-standard size? Is this true for all German cars or just the Porsche? David, the plug is too big to fit in a standard (ie, U.S.) socket!

Steve, Did you try to start the compressor before attaching it to the valve stem?
I have had this problem with mine. It does not have the juice to start up with the hose already pressurized from the tire. If that does not work Hit it with a Hammer as hard as you can. <img border="0" alt="[ouch]" title="" src="graemlins/c.gif" />
No really, just give it a couple of taps with the power on.
Bob.

My BMW motorcycle has the same problem with it's socket. I have to buy an adapter with any plug-in accessory/battery charger/whatever.

Hi Steve,
I had the same problem with my compressor a while ago. It was just a loose connection inside. Pop the plastic case apart and check it out. If I recall, the compressor motor rotated and pulled one of the wires loose. I rotated it back, plugged the wire back in, and it worked. It seemed to me that the motor wasn't real tight, and could rotate again, causing the same problem. I think I solved the rotating motor with a strategically placed wire wrap.
