OT: Has anyone considered selling their 993 for a BMW Z8 at some point?

I think the Z8 is true automotive art. Much like the 993. Stunning car in person.

I was really confused, however, when Alpina came out with 'their' version. When I first heard about, I thought they would be taking the performance to a new level. Instead, they put in an automatic transmission.?

I had a 1970 BWW 2002 Alpina that was modified for pure performance. Guess Alpina doesn't do that anymore.....

I agree completely. The Alpina has a pumped up 4.4 liter V8 from the 540i/740i and the steptronic automatic trans. It's a sweet looking car but the performance left me wanting. They built about 450 of them which is keeping the used values up for the moment. It's a niche car. One big improvement over the "normal" Z8 was the 20" wheels and tires. The handling as well as the ride quality is so much better with the 20's than the 18's with run flats that come stock.
